Shame (the opposite of bragging)

Started by Halcyon, August 03, 2008, 02:54:48 AM

I've always done the same, I don't see why this is in the shame thread.... is it "BAD" that I sub-mote with the only other person in the room?  i consider it a break from the constant !@#$$^$*#~$&~#(*!~(#@!!~!@!^^%

I guess if this is what we're all ashamed of.. I might be to blame.
The glowing Nessalin Nebula flickers eternally overhead.
This Angers The Shade of Nessalin.

You do NOT know that you're the only other person in that room.  That's why you should be ashamed.
"I am a cipher, wrapped in an enigma, smothered in secret sauce."
- Jimmy James, the man so great they had to name him twice

It takes a while to get used to mentally replacing (you) and (your) with (~/!man) and (%/^man), but generally it's a good habit to get into regardless of how many people are in the room. Always practice with the emote code, so you can get it right when the pressure is high!

This. There could be three hidden people in the room watching your interaction with the only other visible player in the room. If they all get "The tall, muscular man kisses your lips tenderly" they might be... very confused, to say the least. Best to target people with the coded symbols whenever you can.

If I were hiding, I daresay I could, in many cases, guess that they don't mean me.

FROM MEMORY
The sword is sharp, the spear is long,
The arrow swift, the Gate is strong.
The heart is bold that looks on gold;
The dwarves no more shall suffer wrong.

Once I was playing an assassin, had tracked his prey and was waiting for the kill. Someone in the room I assume was using you/your over ~/% and when they did: Glancing at you, soandso says "Time to go."

Thinking the game was up, I jumped out and attacked. Killing them both. It wasn't until I looked through the log that I realized the player simply wasn't using symbols. The symbols are important folks. /derail

My shame:
I once played a d-elf that not only looked, but acted a good bit like Drizzt in my newby days. He even carried around a black onyx Quirri and dual wielded scimitars.
A staff member sends you:
"Normally we don't see a <redacted> walk into a room full of <redacted> and start indiscriminately killing."

You send to staff:
"Welcome to Armageddon."

This. And use multipul keywords or, better yet, there name.

Cant count how many times I get targeted by accident!
I remember recruiting this Half elf girl. And IMMEDIATELY taking her out on a contract. Right as we go into this gith hole I tell her "Remember your training, and you'll be fine." and she goes "I have no training." Then she died

I sometimes use 'you'/'your' instead of ~character's shortdesc if I'm in a room alone with another char...

Never should've asked to see my account notes...

Not really applying to Armageddon but someone convinced me to give Shadows of Isildur a try. I wound up in some military role and got dragged into some medical lecture thing. Being the volunteer and asked to say something delirious and silly, I responded with "Welcome to Middle Earth." from the motd of the login page.

Scared to ask for mine. Afraid of seeing the word, "skillmax" somewhere in there, although honestly, with no one around, i get too bored to sit in a tavern for longer than two IG hours. But I'm more afraid that I slipped up a role's basic rulebook somewhere in the beginning, considering that I (now) solely use skill leveling to fight boredom while waiting for other people to show up.

Also: about 50% of the ways in which i died IG. embarrassing blushes when it thinks of it. its just so lame, ridiculous or stupid on my part that, i don't know.

Think I just used the NEW ENTRY bio portion for the first time today.

Used it five times.  Yes, all today.

I was -way- behind...

I haven't written a single bio entry in my life. Oh wait, I did... 2 or 3 way back (about 2006?) with my Fale bard. But ever since, I've been too lazy.  :-[

I'm really bad about this, as well.

I've come to the conclusion that relaxing is not the lack of doing anything, but doing something that comes easily to you.

Not once but twice on patrol in a deep dark thickly treed area, my burly soldier accidentally  kissed a Templar when trying to keyword something. I was rather embarrassed the first time, but the second time it was just getting out of hand. Since it was an obvious ooc mis step I was lucky enough not to get a reaction, either time, though I wondered what the player on the other end must of been thinking.

Nothing like Soldier loven, some deep forest shoven, while on patrol with your unit and Lord Commander.

The funny little foreign man

I often hear the jingle to -Riunite on ice- when I read the estate name Reynolte, eve though there ain't no ice in Zalanthas.

I write my bios at work now, when I can't play. It is great incentive to get them done because in my slow hours I can think about the game and not play it.

kiss tree (catching a low-hanging branch in his hand and pressing his lips to its leaves)

Catching a low-hanging branch in his hand and pressing his lips to its leaves, the burly soldier kisses the tall, menacing templar.

think Why does he have tree as a keyword?

I type ls -la sometimes when I mean to type inventory.
"Daddy, I barfed in my mouth!"

about once every two days I get You are not a Templar because I type inc instead of inv. It doesn't help when I'm in a situation, but at least no one else sees.

"No! So-and-so is dying! A kryl killed him!"

"Take his necklace and give it to his wife... we have some explaining to do."

> get necklace

>inc

You are not a Templar.

(urgh.)

>inc

You are not a Templar.

>inv

You are carrying:

a dead man's necklace

(I need to learn how to type.)

And how are you not suppose to take your account notes personally?  :P

I've gone looking for my own corpses before.  :(

I type 'ls' instead of 'look'. Works especially well on MUDs with a ls social.

Lol. I have aliased 'ls' to be my global look to prevent this.

When I created my first character, based on what the instructions said I made up a completely random word to describe my PC's eyes, the staff member changed it to emerald.
