Tents.

Did you all know that "break tent' is -not- the command to take a tent down?

Seriously....WHY? What need could we have to destroy equipment worth as much as tent?

When it's not your tent you're breaking.

I agree that the word "break" could be misleading when used in conjunction with tents since the term "break camp" means something very different than tearing your tent apart.  It might be nice to change the syntax to something more deliberate like "destroy tent" or "attack tent" or "kill tent", but I'm not sure how much this particular problem crops up.

That said, I always assumed that "break" would have a negative effect on an object's integrity.

"Kill tent" or "destroy tent" would be nice.... but I think it also needs to take a good little chunk of stamina and maybe take a few hits or something rather than just being instantaneous.  I'm not sure how it works exactly, but it sounds a little too easy.

I have had this done to one of my tents by and aggro NPC animal, and I think it was "one hit" but it has been a while.

Tents can definitely be killed.

I've always thought the price of tents represented a rather absurd OOC barrier to their purchase.

I mean, why couldn't somebody come up with a small, light, two-man tent on the cheap?

How many poles and lengths of sandcloth could -possibly- be involved in the construction of something that small?

Why are (most of) the tents available for sale large enough to house a bevy of half-giants, while costing nearly 2 years' worth of an average salary?

Why, I say. WHY!?

I dunno. Ten arrows doesn't seem like an unreasonable price to me. ;)
The sword is sharp, the spear is long,
The arrow swift, the Gate is strong.
The heart is bold that looks on gold;
The dwarves no more shall suffer wrong.

While a hippopotamus -is- small, relative to an elephant...it is by no means a small beast.

That depends on what one defines as a small beast.

What makes no sense to me, is that it doesn't -just- cost that much..but.
It can host a "bevy" of half-giants, all wearing spikedy-spikey canvas-shredding armor, who sit on the canvas ground of the canvas tent, and the canvas will be in 100% perfect condition when they leave..and yet..

a hunter can't bring in his single sunback, or erdlu, or ox, or inix, or war beetle..at all. Not that it'll rip the canvas - but that they can't do it at all. Often - it's the mount that needs the rest more than the rider. But you end up spending over a RL hour just sitting there waiting for the mount to regen, while you have an ENORMOUS 20-Half-Giant Impervious to Spiked Armor tent just sitting there, vacant.

Remember the one in Hildalgo that they made out of the woman's scarf and sticks... cant weight but, oh... two-five stones.  BUT, it only protected them from the heat, NOT the weather.  Just a thought.

Oh man, there was this one time..

..out of no where, the tent was destroyed by some scrab.  Damn those little things! It seemed like that was their
first target, rather than the hostile sentient beings wielding weapons, glaring at them.

I agree, destroying a tent should take more than simply, "break tent," or at least there should be a delay before
the action completes like with the forage skill.

A scrab has arrived from the south.

An awesome tent is here, billowing in the wind.
A scrab is here.
A scrab is here.
Your friend is here, glaring at the scrab with weapons drawn.
Your other friend is here, glaring menacingly at the scrab with weapons drawn.

A scrab rushes toward an awesome tent, pinching at the support beams.

>kill scrab
You viciously jump toward a scrab, pushing it away from an awesome tent.
You solidly slash a scrab on its head.
A scrab reels from the blow.

Your friend darts in between an awesome tent and a scrab, pushing it away.

Does 'guard tent' help to protect it?

If not, it should.

Like 89% certain it does, yeah. But like any guard, it can be bypassed.
