What age did you start playing Armageddon?

Started by Vessol, July 09, 2008, 09:10:41 PM

The other topic inspired this. I included the two teen options to get a better idea of those who started as teenagers.

Vote and include the exact age you started playing if you wish.

I first tried it when I was 12. It didn't have pictures?!?!?!? Couldn't play it.

i started when i was nine or eight O_o. brother showed me the game.
Someone punches a dead mantis in it's dead face.

Started playing Arm about a month ago, at twenty-five years old. Though I started playing MUDs back when I was 15/16.

I started at 13 I think...? 4 or five years ago at any rate.

I started when I was fourteen or fifteen, though I left after a few months and came back at age 21 where I started really playing.

I started playing around 16 or so, but I didn't really play -well- until I was about 21.

Started when I was twenty-two though I had rolled up a character probably a year before and walked around for a few minutes and said fuck this...

Started MUDding way back in like '94-'95 after I made the switch from chatroom roleplay (MAN was that bad) to Terris and Gemstone:Dragonrealms on AOL.  After they started charging I paid for a few months then went on to mudconnector.com and quit in like ninth grade for girls and guitars.

Now I'm back and trying to get in the most time possibly with two jobs and a girlfriend.

you did the biggest mistake of your life

I started playing at 25 (in 2003), had never roleplayed before, or ever been involved with any Muds or any online communities at all. My husband (was my live in boyfriend at the time...yes, we were living in sin! :o) was a long time player, and I was so very curious about what was taking up all of his time. So, I forced him to teach me how to play, and I've been addicted ever since.

15. Good god.

I'm totally with the interesting restaurant conversations. Long ago, a man in a Perkins in Lawrence, KS just before the bar crowd started rolling in, leaned over to my table and asked me and Clegane who we were talking about, who did we kill? Where did we do it? He was so drunk and so excited, we didn't have the heart to disappoint, so we just told him to nevermind. I like to think he was impressed, but neither of us were very scary except in how casually we retold our old stories of extreme violence and senseless murder.

I started playing about 2 weeks ago.

At the age of 26.

I have been mudding or playing some form of text based game since Trade Wars and BBS's back in the day.  Man, trade wars was so awesome...

Anyway, I was more of a player-killer type mud oriented person back then.  Now, roleplay is more appealing.

Seventeen. A week ago.

I've MUDded for a few years though. RPI'd since like 15, 16.

17.

It was so long ago... I don't remember exactly.  Somewhere in the range of 14 - 15 years old, since I'd been playing a while before I got my first job.  I was mudding long before that and I think I even applied for a character here and got approved before I actually settled in... I was really turned off by the application process.  I mean... every OTHER mud let me create out of the box, why did I have to wait for some snarky immortal to say my guy was good enough to run around leveling up?  I think I just deleted that approval email when it finally came, laughed, then hacked some slashing.  I started moving more and more towards "roleplaying" muds, getting hooked on Oblivion's rendition of the rolemaster system and "light" character play.  When it went down, PF and Gaz brought me over here.  Thanks guys.

I'm 27 now, and this game gave me gray hairs.  Thanks again.

Heheh. Give it a week...When Fallout 3 comes out, you are going to be using it to hold you over when Arm just happens to be down.

Once you start the Arm, every other game really kind of loses its luster in a BIG way.

You will still be able to enjoy them for what they are, but there will always be a voice in your head comparing it to how it really doesnt stand up to Arm in "this" or "that" way.

Hehe, make one PC for them and get them to start playing, they will never turn back.

For two years I sat around playing Arm with Forest Junkie and Mudder saying this...."I cant believe you are playing that stupid game again."..."It doesnt even have any damn pictures, that has to be boring."

I got them to each make one PC, they have been playing ever since...That was years ago.

Then a friend of mine turned me onto another free MUD and from there (due to the constant admonition to VOTE!) I found the topmudsites... and decided to try Arm. At the age of 37 or 38, because now I'm 41 and without being able to go back and check for sure I think I've been playing about 3 and a half years.

I started MUDding about 12 years back on AOL also.  First DR then Terris and yes I paid for Terris went AOL started to charge as well.

And so far I'm quite pleased!

Started playing at age 10, played DarkTower alot too in my early days....now 19 and belong exclusively to Club Arm.
Respect. Responsibility. Compassion.

Lets see. Started about 15 - 16 ish? Now I'm 20.

I went with 16 (though I think it probably was late 15's) because I couldn't last for more than 2 days for the longest time. After months I learned how to judge, early on in a fight, if I even had a chance of winning, then flee before I could lose 25 hp, instead of my old idea of waiting until I was BELOW 25 hp to flee! :p

Started with Threshold, then quickly learned how bad it sucked.

Friend who had started me on Threshold, told me to come to Arm. I did. Logged in my first character in Red Storm, looked around for a minute or two, then went LD in the tavern. 3 months later, was feeling a little frisky so I logged back on (- 700 some coin, I estimate. Must've been some decent theives in town at that point) Talked to a merchant down in the tavern there who said he would pay me 1,000 coins to assassinate Lord So-so in Allanak. (I was an assassin) Sold me a flint dagger for 60 sid, and gave me directions to Allanak! Managed to survive the desert, but died in the rinth.

Ran through like 4 more characters basically within the week and decided: I want karma, and I'm getting damned good at this RP stuff. So, I went off and made a new account. (There's a reference to IP overlap in my notes. Heh.) Ran through about 30 more characters who lasted max of a week. (At least half of them were assassins. I've had 2 or 3 different characters in one day, bitchez.)

I still run through them like crazy cause I'm the sort who likes to play almost exclusive combat (or something dangerous), and test myself against stuff that will most assuredly eat my face. hehe. Not too long ago I saw a ________ that says in the mdesc "You get the feeling that if you ______ something very bad will happen." I __________'d.  8) Yeah baby.
