Tattoos and Death

Started by Bebop, June 16, 2008, 06:26:40 PM

Tattoos can tell a lot about a person.  Its one of the things I love about the game.  I want to be able to see these on a corpse when someone dies.

Seeing tattooes, scars, even their mdesc would make me a happy panda.  :)

I especially like the idea that there are certain inkings for certain licenses, castes and jobs IG.  I want to be able to look at someone and go oh shit! You were part of clan XYZ when you lier!  It's totally unrealistic the way it stands now.

Agreed!

Not gonna happen in Arm 1.  Arm 2 will stop making corpse items out of people when they die, allowing you to see them as they were.

What about wounds/cause of death?

Assuming a wound system is in place that shows it if they don't die, it would stay after they die.

Basically, the coded object that is the living PC will also be the dead PC, then, mm? With added abilities to now freely take off and perhaps also put gear on them now? Hmmm?

Yes, that will rock, Morg, it truly will.

Maybe at the very least, we can make it possible to put things in a corpse now?

To dress them for funeral if they are important.  Or to 'plant' evidence...so on.

I don't think you can right now.

Not sure why.

If people were using it as a bag, it will degrade over time, and dump all that stuff upon the ground.

On Morgenes old mud, Aldara, it worked like that.  A corpse was just a PC in a different state (like resting, sitting, standing) and you could pretty much do anything you could do with any other character to it.  The corpses also decayed.

Why hasn't Armageddon had this code for the past decade? The world may never know.

It was a slight derail.  I meant Arm.1 heh.

EDIT:  By that I mean being able to put items in a corpse.  Perhaps have it take the total weight of the items on it currently and then add like 50 stone or something I don't know.  Then you could do those things without worrying about it.

Yeah... It seems like corpses could easily be made into larger sized containers, which would be nice...

Yes, that will be (more or less) done for Arm 2, as stated.

Okay...I mean...how much trouble would that be to do 'NOW' in Arm.1?  If a lot, forget it...I've lived without all this time.

But if not that hard...please?

Simply making the corpse a container you can put stuff in wouldn't be hard at all currently. But I suspect that changing the corpse code completely would entail a generous amount of work currently.

On a side note, what I would really like to see as well would be states of decay. An unattended corpse should rot slowly, until it was just meat on bones ... the decay that happens right now is ... lame, to me. Seriously, I think that we could add flags to corpses now, like the dusty flag, that said: dryed up, rotting, badly rotting, nearly unrecognizable, and just [race] remains. In an example, the dryed up corpse of the grey man, the rotting corpse of the grey man, the badly rotting corpse of the grey man, the nearly unrecognizable corpse of the grey man, and some human remains. I really do not want to see corpses disappear unless the MUD crashs or it stays up for like two RL weeks, or someone burns them or something.

And the ultimate decay message should be changed to something like, 'Vultures pick the last of the meat off of the corpse of the grey man,' as opposed to 'dries up and blows away'.

Are these new character-corpses going to go away after reboots, like the current corpses?

I'm going to hazard a guess and say "no," since I remember hearing that every room will now be a save room.  This means, of course, that all items in those rooms will be saved through reboots, and this would logically include corpses.

Which is, as many others have said, fuckin' awesome.

Can you tell us how decay of corpses will work, Morg?

Assuming a wound system is in place that shows it if they don't die, it would stay after they die.

I've mentioned this a couple of times in the past... it would be nice to be able to study a corpse and figure out if it was slashed/stabbed/clawed/burned it to death...  or whatever.

Or more gruesome stuff like outright disembowelment.... Those raptors can get pretty nasty in packs, so I hear.
