Enjoying the game so far, also, a script for CMUD

Hello, newbie here and I'm really enjoying my first character who has already survived his first rl day. The atmosphere has been great but I've been trying to keep track of some names I pick up as I go along and I find myself forgetting. Since my character can't write and I'm sure he wouldn't forget these people, I whipped up a little contact list script to keep the player from forgetting what his character wouldn't (he's been seeking these people all day)

The syntax works like this:
Contacts 1.0 by Vanan
-------------
Usage: CONTACTS
<NOTE>
Options:
ADD - Adds a contact to the list, can optionally specify a note.
DELETE - Removes a contact from the list.
LIST - Lists all contacts and current note.
NOTE - Provide a name and a note, and it will be added to that contact.

And the list looks like this: (names and notes changed to protect the innocent and guilty)

Name: Note
---------
Rxxxx: Has a very nice beard.
Axxxx: Destroyed narnia.
Bxxxx: Fought a duel on top of my airship on xx-xx-xx.

Somewhat crude but it is fast and is helpful if you don't like having notepad open on top of your client or keeping a journal in paper. I put it up on the CMUD package library (just search ArmageddonMUD, there's only two scripts) and I'll post the XML here for folks who want to import it. (it's just one alias that creates a database variable)

<cmud>
  <alias name="contacts">
    <value>$option = %lower(%param(1))
$name = %proper(%param(2))
$note = %proper(%params(3))
#sw ($option="add") {#addkey contacts $name %if($note="",none,$note);#sa Added $name to contact list.} ($option="delete") {#delkey contacts $name;#sa Removed $name from contact list.} ($option="list") {#CR;#SA Name: Note;#SA ---------;#showdb @contacts} ($option="note") {#addkey contacts $name $note;#SA Added note to $name.} {#SA Contacts 1~.0 by Vanan;#SA -------------;#SA Usage: CONTACTS ~<OPTION~> ~<NAME~> ~<NOTE~>;#SA Options:;#SA ADD - Adds a contact to the list, can optionally specify a note.;#SA DELETE - Removes a contact from the list.;#SA LIST - Lists all contacts and current note.;#SA NOTE - Provide a name and a note, and it will be added to that contact.}</value>
  </alias>
</cmud>

Getting started is as easy as typing CONTACTS, which will print the help I put up in the first codebox. If there's any interest I can port it fairly quickly to zMUD and add features. Enjoy, and thanks for the fun times :D

Awesome! I love stuff like this and why I'm not sure I'd use this because I prefer to keep an excel spreadsheet open I can organize with all my shit... I'd still love to check it out.

I use CMUD and if you have any neat scripts that make things easier or more fluent in Arm please let me know.

P.S. And before someone flips their wig, nobody is asking for or wants a spam hunt script this is just something fun that lets you customize your game client side.

Exactly, I've been doing more convenience things like this as they hit me as I play. I came from an Iron Realms mud where your average character is carrying about 2 MS Office 2007's worth of scripts just to stay alive for 5 seconds in a fight. It taught me how to write scripts, but the gameplay really suffered. So no hunt spam scripts or anything like that, besides I'm way too big a noob to write one of those properly :D

Which IRE MUD? There are a few of us converts here. I played on Lusternia for about a year and had a pretty big position in the Ebonguard. Guess what though? Armageddon is SO much more fulfilling and I didn't have to drop a thousand bucks to play. Keep the neat scripts coming for CMUD though, I'm definitely interested. I have colouring and stuff done that I got from someone on the boards and then customized if you are interested in checking it out.

I had a cmud free trial, that I didn't use because setting up triggers made my head hurt. I tried to get around that by asking people to share theirs with me, but no one responded... so, I' stuck with simplemu.

But on a less self-involved note, welcome to Arm!
Varak:You tell the mangy, pointy-eared gortok, in sirihish: "What, girl? You say the sorceror-king has fallen down the well?"
Ghardoan:A pitiful voice rises from the well below, "I've fallen and I can't get up..."

That's pretty nifty, something that I'd probably do. However, I like trying to remember characters' names. I figure that if I as a player can't remember it, then my character probably can't either because it's been even longer for them.

I honestly havn't had any reason to get off of zmud yet. Other than supporting the makers, I might get cmud just to give them money, but other than that. What is the benefits of cmud over zmud?

On the flipside though, I think that my character doesn't have to try and remember those other characters' names, when my classes start, the names of people IRL, important stuff at work, ect, ect, the way I, the player have to. So I feel like it's not so bad to keep a cheat sheet of things I'll forget, but that my character shouldn't.

Having said that, I still sometimes have my character intentionally forget people's names for kicks. :)

Oh my god he's still rocking the sandwich.

If I can't personally remember someone's name, or I say it wrong (I do this so much), it's my character's memory, not mine. It's fun being corrected anyway (or not).
