Be fruitful and multiply

For a while now, since the new weight code I think, I've been finding some container plants have more in them than they used to, much more.  Like a mint plant that used to have 3 or 4 leaves now has 20, or an apple tree that has 300 apples on it.  I've been bugging these things as I find them, assuming that this increased fruitfulness is a result of the weight changes, but since I'm still finding them I'm starting to wonder.

Possiblity 1  It's a bug, so report it already.

Possibility 2  It's a bug, but they already know about it, so you don't need to report ever single plant you find that seems over-stocked.  Stop pestering them.

Possibility 3  It is not a bug, so stop complaining.  Assume that it is a patch of mint or a grove of apple trees, not just one plant, to make it plausible that one plant has so many fruit or that you can rip off so many leaves without killing the plant.[/list]

    Any thoughts?

Not really, though about a year ago I had a char that found 'The rosebush-of-infinite-flowers' Did not think a lot of it till I found I could pick up the plant itself, put it down someplace else and pick flowers for everybody in the city...can't remember if I bugged it, wonder if it is still where I left it:)

Myself, I find these new numbers to be far more realistic, IRL an apple tree with 300 apples in prime seaon is only middle sized, not uncommon, a mint plant grows to over 4' tall with leaves 2-3 inches long, could easily pluck 60-100 without even beginning to harm the plant, and they normaly grow in patches, grasses often cover complete fields, should be no problem getting better then 20 blades without killing off the field, even in zalanthas.

Just my take on it, I've noticed it also, but thought it was done on purpose, and even if was not, feels more real this way.

Maybe someone in authority just really likes mint-flavored apple cobbler?  :P

This is a bug as a result of the new weight code, please bug stuff as you find it. People haven't had the bandwidth to fix it yet. Thanks.

yeah I used to always think numbers were too small-

"Stands of whipleaf grow out as far as the eye can see."

    look in stand:

    in a stand of whipleaf:
    nothing

thats an exaggeration but yeah, things similar have happened. Whats worse is with forage.

"rocks/wood/whatever are visible all over the floor, etc"

    forage rocks/whatever
    You find nothing.

Hey, look at the bright side, at least we have an infinite supply of sand storms .....

Yeah, AC, I've been bugging all these containers too, sent an e-mail to the account about it, definitely a bug, and just bug the ones you see they told me.

Ok, Staff says it's a bug, but I still have to ask, what is so wrong with the plant container types having realistic amounts of items? Oh, sure somebody could go run in and grab all 300 of the apples, but what is he gonna get from that other then a lot of free food? shops only buy five, if they buy them, and what they gonna pay for an apple, a couple sid, People already clear areas after a reboot, I myself have had non desert elf chars completly clear huge areas of all herbs/leaves/fruits etc in two ic days just to get enough to fill one large bag and fail cooking or somesuch destroying everything in a couple ic hours.

And some other person or ten may have the same skills, but I've managed to denude the landscape in a matter of minutes, so, no chance for him/them till next reboot.

Been on the tail end of this many many times. Nothing worse then walking into a room that says such and such is covered with such and such plant, but um, no somebody already got the 2 flowers that load there once an ic month.

I seem to remember a thread on this, maybe on the old GDB, Hey, wondering, if staff adjusts these items, is it going to be back to the old amount, somewhere in between or on a case by case basis?

Increasing the numbers wouldn't help the area being cleared out untill next reboot. It'll just mean the first person there gets more as you probably would know clearing out areas yourself.

The only thing that'd really help is thing reloaded more often then just one reboots. Things like that SHOULD be in the code... or it'd be easy to find that code and make something similar in Arm. And probably adjust it so the reboots are random instead of the same thing.

Oh...thank heaven. I thought this thread was about baby objects on first glance.

It seems like I only ever pass by plant containers by the merest of accidents. In riding with others, I've noticed that some people can manage to 'happen' to pass by seemingly every container in riding distance, by the route they take.

I suppose it's just another case of more playing experience giving them advantages, insofar as knowing what their character would know. Whereas, dumb newbie schmoes like myself tend to look like idiots when they attempt to play someone who would know a certain thing, but due to my ooc newness, they don't know it. :(

I think we might need to change World Discussion to Armchair Zalanthan Anthropology.

I think an easy herb solution would be the ability to forage for herbs in areas so designated.

that way it would be just like the wood and rock situations.

In case anyone has been confused, when I refered to apples and mint I didn't mean actual apples and mint, the names were changed from IC names to protect IC information and conceal my ignorance of what the real names are.   :)  I'm pretty sure that most of the known world would be too hot to grow good apples.

Ah, thanks, that what I wanted to know.

Some plants do continuously regenerate.  I know of one at least one plant that you can go by every few IC days and harvest more leaves from it.  And the breakable plants usually regrow within a few days too.  On the other hand I've seen plants that always seem to be empty, even a couple hours after a reboot, but maybe I've just been unlucky.

I did too!  This is, however, a bug that does need to be fixed.  Report it as necessary!

Hmm, since this is a bug, is going "get all plant" and taking the unreasonable number of things in the plant bug abuse?  Or is it ok until the problem is fixed?

Usually any outdoor character I have strips the local flora even if she isn't an herbalist, and then sells it to the city-bound herbalists who are too chicken to go outside themselves (these timid herbalists live much longer than my bold and foolhardy herb gatherers, which is why I've had 40+ characters in two years).   :)   Lately this has lead fabulous wealth and a heavy pack, one day I counted that I was carrying around 40 bimbal leaves before I decided to just ignore any more bimbal plants I ran into for a while.  My last grasslands character . . .  well, she could easily have harvested more fruit and herbs than she could carry.  Even at the bush of 300 fruits it didn't seem right to take more than 15 or 20, besides, typing "get all bush" at the bush of 300 fruits causes the mud to drop your connection.  :P

So when does legitimate harvesting become bug abuse?

Basically if you're making lots of money while doing a menial labor like gathering things in the forest, you are probably going a wee bit overboard  :D
