Spice prices

Started by Inix77, December 12, 2007, 10:11:30 AM

Well I was just wondering, does anyone know why most of the prices in the Tembo's Tooth, are more expensive than, in the shop near the Nenyuk bank? Because I was just thinking, that Kuraci would have probably sold it cheaper...not more expensive? And i've never bothered to look but is spice cheapest in Luirs? ;D

I would say that your post borders on IC information, but since it's not something that anyone can really abuse to any great benefit, I think it's alright.

I believe Kurac owns both of the places you mentioned. One is a tavern and the other is a shop. Things tend to be more expensive in taverns, just as you have to pay much more for a beer in a bar than you do in the supermarket.

As for the prices in Luir's, you'll just have to find that out for yourself by going there or asking someone in the game. But everyone knows that Luir's Outpost is House Kurac's headquarters and main base of trade and operation, so you can make assumptions from that as you please.

I'm not sure about the prices, it would be best to find out IC. but just from reading the post I'd say the reasoning for the price difference may be a lot like RL... you are going to pay more to buy your smokes at the bar for the convenience of them being sold there as opposed going to a cigarette shop.

Why are gas prices more expensive at the gas stations -near- the highway?

Because people will use it more -there- than any other location.  And they will pay the extra for the convenience.
Spice is something that people do when they are also drinking, or so I've been promoting.

You win Armageddon, congratulations!  Type 'credits', then store your character and make a new one

Ok I get it now, they charge you more, because they're charging for the convenience  as well...I see.

Cigarettes are expensive as hell in a bar, and you can buy them for 3/5 or even 1/2 the price at a gas station a block away.

Maybe ask a government worker in Tuluk?  ;)

Spice should be cheapest in Red Storm where it's made.

Yeah, but if he's from Tuluk, going to Red Storm for some spice is probably a bit over the top.

If you're a trader/hunter/spy that can pick some valuables up on the trip, maybe. But Red Storm's an expensive trip; it'll eat up food and water, and then you have to factor in the risk... maybe just go to Luir's for your budget spice!

I'm not sure that it is "made" in Red Storm.  Raw spice can be collected around Red Storm, but I've always assumed Kurac does some sort of processing to produce the finished bricks of spice.   Processing might occur in Luir's Outpost, since that is going to be more comfortable and more secure than a warehouse in Red Storm.

At the very least, they probably re-sift it and remove more sand and grit than a standard spice sifter.  It might not matter for smoking, but you don't want to snort sand.

From my brief attempts at working as a sifter, it appears that some varieties of spice are not found in raw form in the common spice fields.  It is possible that they were there but I just didn't find them.

There are also some things found far away from Red Storm that appear to be ingredients for spice, and despite the fact that they don't look like spice they will get you arrested if you try to carry them into Allanak.

Processing would also give Kurac some "trade secrets" other than "kill the competition."   ;D  Since anyone can buy a sifter and hit the sands, Kurac isn't the only source of spice, but they may have the best quality spice.
