Analyze

Ok I've got a question as to how this skill works...
My char currently has fletchery and analyze. I'm assuming the only real thing I'm going to be able to analyze are arrows, but I've yet to get -anything- out of it. I pull out an arrow, type 'analyze arrow', get no acknowledgement whatsoever of what I've done, sit there for 10 rl minutes and get nothing.
How do I use this wacky skill?
