Tuluk is now Forming Like Voltron

Quote from: "Tlaloc"Just posting this here to state that the past couple weeks have been really fantastic in Tuluk, and the city is currently in an extended RPT-type scenario, where things can happen at any time.

Quote from: "Aernis"The nobility of Tuluk have real power.  They can, and have, made laws that were passed.  The game of politics and intrigue in Tuluk is huge because of this and right now...

Well, right now, Tuluk is exploring its future through the interactions of the players.

Quote from: "Bebop"Also in account to what Tlaloc said with the new opening of the Chosen's I bet there are ALOT of jobs and plot lines opening up in Tuluk to allow your character to make their mark in the game.

Allanak used to be my favorite place starting out but after playing on merchant there Tuluk has become by far my favorite. Give it at try if you're thinking about a new character.

Just wanted to chime in. I'm so amazed and excited by what I'm seeing in Tuluk right now. I loved Tuluk before, I loved the Copper War, but this is...just WOW. The imms and the players are working so hard, creative and crazy stuff is happening, and I sense that it's going to get more and more awesome.

Big huge kudos to all.

I could not give up my current role for Tuluk, but I'm excited for it anyway.

Halaster could you get on this please?  Spawnloser needs his current role freed up.

Hee hee.  I kid.

I'm looking forward to seeing what it's like, but I'm sorta settled on a role atm. :)
eeling YB, you think:
    "I can't believe I just said that."

This is not really a solicitation thread. I think cool stuff will be happening in Tuluk for a long time, and people will get a chance to experience it, even if they are in settled roles right now. This is more of a:

GOOD JOB EVERYONE!

thread.

And the fact that I'm really excited about watching it all unfold. It just seems like Tuluk is getting what everyone has wanted for a long time.

Tuluki fanboy/girl players are one thing, and something I can grudgingly deal with on the boards. Same as nakki fans, or Kurac fans, or d-elf fans, or magicker fans.

I just don't know if I like it that staff are starting to get into it and promoting Tuluk as well. It gives the impression certain staffers might be slanted or biased in favor of Tuluk or its related clans, and this sort of endorsement coming from staff makes me feel like Tuluk is being billed at the Super Happy Fun Place To Play.

PCs are a limited resource, and there is plenty of politics, intrigue, and action in other parts of the game right now too. I hope people will keep that in mind. I don't mean to be negative against anyone, I think it's great that people are having fun in Tuluk and naturally Tlaloc and Aernis are enthusiastic about projects they're working on. I'm just worried things are going a little over the top.

'nakkis and Kuracis and Stormers and tribals and rinthers and mages need loving too.

The message that I get from staff is not that 'Tuluk is now the best place to play.' It's 'We've been listening to your concerns with Tuluk and are addressing them. Give it another chance and we hope you'll like what we've done with the place.'

'Sabout time.  Hah, hippy tulukis are finally devoping a culture and world of their own... at least until the next Nakki conquering.

(Good job guys, actually, I've been darned impressed with the changes to Tuluki society I've seen since returning to the game.  I think the Staff and players have done a lot with it, and look forward to seeing even more.)

Right now, things are going quite strong in Tuluk, so why shouldn't a staffer advertise?  I know we get Soh Lanah Kah advertisements on the Player Announcement board ever couple of months.

Player allotment moves in cycles.  Usually those cycles follow where things are happening.  Would you blame the staffers for advertising the last HRPT?  That event absolutely required a good deal of players.  It drained the PC population all over the world.  I heard the whining on this board for weeks how everyplace other than the battlefield was almost barren.  Was it worth it?  Yeah!  If the situation is interesting, the players will flock.  That is, if they have some idea something is going on.

So if the staff is putting a good deal of effort into a project and feels like advertising it, I say let them.  It gets the word out to players who aren't "in the know."  Then there are some players who listen to gossip and write off certain organizations or areas without ever trying them.  Then, if a player feels like trying something new after mourning their recently deceased character, they know there's something out there happening.  It sticks in their head and gives a temptation to break habit, which is a good thing in my mind.
Any questions, comments, or condemnations to an eternity of fiery torment?

Waving a hammer, the irate, seething crafter says, in rage-accented sirihish :
"Be impressed.  Now!"

There's a huge difference between a SLK player advertising in player announcments and a Highlord advertising in staff announcements.

Sorry, I have to do this, even though it really derails instead of contributing.

*wallows in self-pity for not being able to play*

Anyway, now that that's done, Great Job with Tuluk! I haven't been there and probably won't be for a while, but I Want To! I've always wanted to experience real Tuluk, and play there roughly half the time.

I'm an Allanak fan, but I've took a giant step into Tuluk and right now it's rockin'. It's the place to be right now, imo.

Quote from: "Rhyden"I'm an Allanak fan, but I've took a giant step into Tuluk and right now it's rockin'. It's the place to be right now, imo.

I kind of agree with the people saying that Tuluk shouldn't be uber promoted in this way. Allanak is great right now, but I'm personally feeling like I don't want to know that I'm missing out on Tuluk, or that it's the 'place to be' as there is no way I'd give up my current role to make the switch.

Tlaloc is the Area admin for the Northlands.  It's his baby.  Of course he likes it best and wants to promote all the neat things that are happening there. :)

Look guys, we're not (nor do I think we've ever claimed to be) unbiased as individuals.  Some of us like imming for elves, some of us like imming for mercenaries, and some of us like imming for merchant houses.  Just like with players, yeah?  We are, after all, just players who get to do a lot of cool stuff with this game we all love.

RPTs always get advertised...what's happening right now is basically an extended RPT like the Copper War was. Seems totally right on to me that staff and/or whoever else is running RPTs tell the playerbase about them. There were players who couldn't/wouldn't make it to the Copper War either. That's just a fact of RPTs. However, those who CAN make it but might not if they didn't know can benefit from notices like these.

Personally I think the entire point of playing on Zalanthas is to try and put a role in where it's making some kind of interesting point on history, or at least viewing it.

I realize alot of people play magickers, indies, etc for the point of being able to kill and skin the most uber amount of stuff. But the focus of the game shouldn't be that.

I think it's great that a personal imm project that is making waves in arm history is announced. I think having more pc's there to see/represent/experience the changes is an awesome idea and really ideally why we play arm, to experience an evolving story.

You can still play any other role out there, he's just saying, if you play one in this place, there's more happening now then there was before, come be part of the story.
A single death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic.  Zalanthas is Armageddon.

I'm not harshing on Tlaloc's love for the northlands. I'm just pointing out that the staff announcment is completely different than any previous staff announcements (at least those in recent memory) in terms of tone.

Even Tlaloc's previous RPT announcments for the Northlands. ;)

I'm wallowing in self pity too.
Child, child, if you come to this doomed house, what is to save you?

A voice whispers, "Read the tales upon the walls."

I just want to say that right now is probably one of the greatest experiences I've had in my entire five years at Armageddon.

Yeah, this from the guy that hates Tuluk.
Back from a long retirement

I played in Allanak for my first I don't know how many characters. I loved Allanak, its brutally real and had alot of amazing story lines going on where ever you looked. With my last few characters, I decided to finally give Tuluk a try. It is a polar opposite to Allanak on many levels, but some things remain the same (such as, even though mostly secretive, Brutalilty and many awesome storylines) With the amount of work Tlaloc and the rest of the imms have poured into the latest projects for Tuluk, I am more hooked then ever and simply can't believe the changes literally unfolding on a daily basis by player involvement before our eyes.

So, in short, -Armageddon- where ever you look, is an amazing game with ungodly hours poured into it by tireless staff.

Tuluk is rocking right now, Allanak rocked when I played there and I'm sure if I was in Red storm, Luirs outpost or where ever, I would say it rocks too because the game, as a whole, is a never ending work of art that staff and we players paint and or shape.

For what its worth, I offer my praise to all the staff and players who are making all this game fantastic. Crackageddon.

Just to be perfectly clear:

I've always been an Allanak fanboy. Allanak was the first city-state I ever played in, and to me, Allanak is the place that truly defines what 'Armageddon' is to me. Many (if not most) of my characters tend to be Allanakis.

This is why I took Tuluk, (with only a little Tuluki experience) on as a project: to make Tuluk a place I would want to play. Honestly, this has always been my goal: to make places *I* would want to spend my time, from my first forrays into the game, to the T'zai Byn to the Northlands. I think I would count myself lucky if I can say that I've been reasonably successful in those ventures. Ultimately, this goal is what forged the project into what it is now: Forming Like Voltron into something which I hope is ruthlessly cuthroat, nasty, and interesting to play as Allanak...at least, somewhere in it's dark interiors, while still clinging to a completely separate and unique 'culture' that is 'Tuluk'.

Ultimately, I intended for my post to only to state this, and nothing more: Tuluk is, in my opinion, in a place where  I would feel confident playing a PC there, personally. Not confident in knowing that I can succeed...but confident that my PC would have a vast array of things to do, experience, be threatened by, and in turn threaten. In short: I'm confident that I could now play a successful character there, without worry of it being less interesting than, say, a typical Allanaki character. Tuluk is becomming, I hope, every bit as harsh as Allanak is, with it's own Tuluki flava.

So. That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it!

Anyways, I always loved the north... from one of my first characters where I spent all of my starting coin on a bow I couldn't pull and arrows, so that I could go hunt gortok. All the way to an enemy with a huge bounty on his head. I can't wait to see what it has turned into.

We're not saying Allanak is a worse place to be. We're saying shit's goin' down, if you want in on it, make a Tuluki.

For the Copper Wars, Halaster posted events about it on staff announcements. What happened next? A whole wave of characters were made who intended on being 'in' on the Copper War.

Big deal, play in Tuluk or not, I think Tlaloc is just putting it out there. Take it or leave it.

One thing to remember. This is not a pet project of a single staff member.  A lot of people worked on the northlands.  Both staff members and players alike contributed.  The depth and the thought put into it, by all the members involved has been nothing short of impressive.   I hope that all of you get a taste of the huge amount of creativity that has gone on here.

QuoteIf you've never played in Tuluk, have always felt that Tuluk was 'too nice', are a great fan of Tuluk, or if you're just curious to watch how politics, Sorcerer-Kings and the common man can shape a city-state, then I recommend folks come by and play in the Northlands.

That -does- sound sort of like a bribe or promise, to defend whichever poster was concerned.

I don't care, though.  I haven't played in about two months, and am considering coming to see what the hell this jazz is all about.  Damn treehuggers, giving me mysteries to investigate!

Truthfully, to get anything started, players are needed. The more people come, the thicker the plots get. Goes with anyplace, but at the moment, Tuluk is the place. So come join in all the action folks!

So just give wherever you wanna go some TLC and you'll probably have a blast.

As yet I haven't seen any ghost towns, just lots more people logging in nice and regular. Wahoo.

For the record, Allanak is and always has been teh pwn.  Maybe the Tuluk folks have just learned that knives can do more then skin furry animals, but this is just rehashing Allanak history.  Yeah, Tuluk might be worth playing these days, but so is Allanak.
