Is the damage bonus from strength too high?

I've a question to ask the players. With the new changes to the defense code and such, it seems any characters with a decent strength score, (eg or higher) can do a lot of damage just because they are muscle-bound. Now this seems to be true for animals as well, which doesn't make much sense. If you think about it, half-giants and other high strength  characters get a huge advantage already, by being able to wield the heaviest weapons, by being able to carry way more weight than any other normal character who rolled an average strength number, and on top of all that they get +40-50 damage because of their strength.

This just seems to sway the balance greatly, and it's been like this for as long as I can remember. In my opinion, damage in combat should be based far more off your skill with the weapon you are using, rather than how high your strength number is. Anyone who knows anything about the combat code, can attest to half-giants being able to break through defenses with their high strength (which for some reasons allows them to hit you). And now with the new defense code, it is even WORSE. So I hate to see any skilled warrior, human or otherwise go up against a half-giant nowadays. Muscle does not = massive damage and should not
realistically.

I propose that the bonus to damage in combat from the strength modifier be lowered, whether 1/2 or 1/4th. I think it's way too high. Thoughts?

Combat damage is an issue, however it's not exactly what you think.  We are working on this, I would suggest tabling this discussion till the updates on Wednesday.

fixt.

Nope.

And man, you have never been in a fight with somebody a LOT stronger then you.

Find somebody who weighs around 280-320lbs and who can bench 575-625lbs and pick a fight with them.

I'm stupid, I've done it. First, Um, hey, they hit ALOT harder. Second, they hit hard enough that you cannot defend  against or block the blows.

Now talk Zalanthas...Um HELLO, HG weighs what, 1,600-2,000 pounds? I'm not even going to go farther with that one.

I currently have a PC who is not a HG who spars half-giant warriors even after the bug fix, sure, it can be somewhat more painful, but if it was a real fight it would be a dead HG.
A gaunt, yellow-skinned gith shrieks in fear, and hauls ass.

If you -want- me to think that your character is a hybrid of a black kryl and a white push-broom shaped like a penis, then you've done a great job

I've gotta go with X-D on this one. Average guy vs. musclebound guy... Have you ever played God of War? I think it wouldn't be a bad idea to consider anyone with exceptional or higher strength to be on the same level as Kratos. And for animals... well, let's send you to battle against a raptor or a beetle as big as your computer desk irl, and tell me how good you'd do. Try rolling for a higher endurance maybe? Or make endurance points more effective in lowering damage?

musashi: It's also been argued that jesus was a fictional storybook character.
