If you have an apartment rented and a smaller apartment opens up in your complex, how can you swap to that smaller apartment?

Also, can you also decide later to go to a larger apartment?

I am just curious, my place is mid three figures and it's really expensive.

Codewise, there's no way to do this except by waiting for your rent to expire and then renting the smaller place.  If someone rents the smaller place before your rent expires...well...nothing you can really do.

You could try emailing the mud to see if an imm would be willing to animate the landlord or arrange something else.

You -can- rent multiple apartments as long as they're in separate buildings.  Try looking around to see if there's another apartment available in your price range...I know in some places this can be difficult, though.
