Emoting++

What if there were a few options added to emoting to differentiate between players/mobiles and items?

Namely:

Item's sdesc, item's possessive form and item's pronoun form.  Seems there are some characters to spare, aren't there?

Just a thought.

Not too sure what you're saying, but items return a "it" when I use !

~, #, % and ^ work with characters and items both.

Also, you don't have to worry about the item itself seeing your emote formatted incorrectly, so you can safely use "it", "its", etc. without giving offense.

That's true.  The suggestion was more or less aimed at eliminating erroneous targets.  One example, which I'm sure is most common, is targeting a cloak and ending up with that guy/girl/rinther over there in the hooded cloak.  But taking your post into consideration, I can see how possessive forms would be plain silliness.

Actually, posessives are not silly.

> em picks up ~cloak and picks at ^cloak hem.
The ropy, top-knotted man picks up the hooded, city-camouflaged cloak and picks at its hem.

In the context of differentiating between player/mobiles and items, rather.  Seeing as you can just type out it/its.

In that sense, it is pointless to use any of the targetting characters when referring to an object except the ~.

%cloak is easier than ~cloak's, too.

Don't forget, use the 'keyword' command (keyword cloak) to figure out what # the cloak you're holding/wearing would be.

But can you use ~.4 cloak?

Yes.

You sure about that?

Well, with a tiny adjustment of the period, which I assumed was a typo. ;)

~4.cloak works.

Works as in... you believe it works or as in you did it in-game a few minutes ago?

Dude, try it for yourself.

Emote saunters over to ~3.blue and yanks on ~2.green, tossing ~4.white to the table.

Numbers work :)

In the room:
1.cloak - the tiny and gaunt figure in a dark, hooded cloak

In Inventory:
 2.cloak - a dark, hooded cloak

> :picks at ~2.cloak
Morgenes picks at your dark, hooded cloak.

I wrote it, I've proven it, there, go forth and stop complaining about this.

Wow, I didn't know!

This is sweet.  Thanks! :)

I'm not complaining, it's just that last time (admittedly, a while ago) I tried to emote ~2.something it didn't work, and since then I don't remember seeing an announcement about it being fixed.  (Also, I'm at work so I can't test it.)

So it works with people as well as objects?

Even I knew dat. And I'm a newb. Shame I keep getting the numbers wrong though.

Walking slowly towards the tavern door, @ pulls the collar of a very tall figure in a hooded, dirty dustcloak up around his neck.

think krath thats one heavy cloak

Yes, it works with any keyword.

The 'key' command is especially helpful in clans where you have rooms with 10+ lockers and an ungodly number of chests and trunks.

And it's absolutely wonderful when trying to avoid social faux pas through "keyword hell".

Sorry, I'm a n00b.  This is exactly what I was looking for, thanks.
