Even if you're min/maxing to your very worst, you really shouldn't assume that each guild has an optimal set of stats.  Depending on what skills you want to focus on, some statistics will be more useful than others.  Don't just assume that a warrior's best skill is strength, or a mages best skill is wisdom.

This is going to be a very good thing, I think.  Thanks for putting this in.

And Morgan, as I understand it, when you create a new character, you may arrange agility/endurance/strength/wisdom in order of preference.  Then when you roll, the rolls will be ordered accordingly from high to low (and appropriately modified in the usual ways).

I think the way it works is you select stat ordering at chargen. Like, say you pick strength, wisdom, agility, endurance as your order. Then it rolls as usual... If you had picked no ordering, you would have ended up with poor strength, good agility, average wisdom, and very good endurance. With the magic of stat ordering, this roll becomes very good strength, good wisdom, average agility, and poor endurance.

Also, I really like this addition.
eeling YB, you think:
    "I can't believe I just said that."

Actually, it works more like this.

Using numbers, let's say you decided not to use stat ordering. Your race gets a +2 in str, a -1 in agi, and a +10 in wisdom. Your rolls were a 10, 12, 9, 8.

Your unordered character ends up with a 12 str, 11 agi, 19 wis, and 8 end, after all racial mods have been applied.

Taking the same character and the same roll, but assuming you asked for ordering, and your order was str, wisdom, agi, end, your character has 14 str, 8 agi, 20 wis, and 8 end.

Understand?

Your roll doesn't change, nor do your racial modifiers, and getting an AI in endurance doesn't mean you will have an AI in str just because you want that number there. It means that, BEFORE YOUR RACIAL MODIFIERS ARE ADDDED, you will take that 12 roll and put it in strength. Then, racial modifiers are added, after you have decided where you want your initial rolls to fall.

Big props to Morgenes. As someone who has seen this idea mentioned for many years, over and over again, it's good to see it implemented.

I think what we will see is two or three common ordering preferences for each guild, with a fourth "I think I know the hidden secret to this guild" rarer variant.

I think, ultimately, that this will be a lot more interesting than a fixed system. Which attribute DO you assign your best value? I can see myself taking an hour just to decide, tortured, cursing you guys for doing this, but loving it at the same time. Making a Wedding-Crashers-like speech and solution just for some fricken stats.

Once again, cheers to Morgenes. To a lot of people this is probably the most significant feature in years, though I'm glad the old option of "swearing profusely at Ginka for giving me this set of stats" is still available for us to tempt our fate. ;)

Speculation by the player base about the code calculation aside.
It prioritizes the importance of specific stats.
A HG is still going to be super strong, and lack agility.
You can still have all very good stats, or pretty poor ones.
But it should allow to you to emphasize, or demphasize something at least to an extent to help your character be more appropriate to the way you imagined it.

Ah, yes, I didn't even think about racial modifiers. Ignore me, MorganChaos!

Morgenes, Thanks.

Maybe we should ride your back like a monkey more often.

Let's see a little love for the man who finally put in an idea we've been discussing for (literally) years and which people have requested over and over and over again. ;)
Weee! No longer will I have to make genericly muscled characters :D Although I had worked out ways to get around this (make really young or old chars) it was still annoying ;) So thanks Morgenes :D

Quote from: "Gaare"All warriors with high strenght, all magickers with high wisdom.. I know that's what it is on all most all RPG games, but.. I am not sure I will like it on ARM.
This simply won't be the case for me. I pity people that do allow their character options to be limited to such types. I always make my character before their class, and afterwards I decide which class best suits a character.

Quote from: "najdorf"since probably no one will invest on endurance.
Again I can promise you that I'll be the exception (most likely because I don't properly understand how the stats affect characters).

A voice whispers, "Read the tales upon the walls."

I think it'll be a little more complex than anyone mentioned.  Different races have different ranges for the different stats, far as I can tell.  So an elf might have a range of 10 for wisdom, 8 for agility, 6 for strength and a halfgiant 5 for strength, 4 for wisdom, etc.  But I trust Morgenes did it so we don't have to worry about all that and can just put the stats the way we would hope them and push the big red button labeled "Do Not Push".

If there was going to be a way to let players set stats, I guess this is the best one. Thanks Morg.

Can we still reroll once even with ordered stats? Or will one reroll be the advantage of the un-ordered approach?
