Arena IC board?

I was thinking: in 'nak's Arena, what if there was a nice little IC board for the games to be posted about? They're supposed to be something all the city enjoys, so I think it'd be kind of interested if the Byn sarge and his runners were in the Barrel talking about how the Silt Horror killed twelve Muls in five seconds, or that guy who took down 50 kazillion muls.

BUMP! (maybe replace the senate board that isn't used.... )

I think some place close to Meleth's circle would serve good for both Senate and Arena boards.
some of my posts are serious stuff

So hypothetically there could be posts about Arena happenings and my character could tell stories about being there, what he did, who he kissed under the bleachers, etc..?  Since there's a huge VNPC population he could have been there even if I wasn't logged and not be lying when he tells these stories.  To make it click with the world I can get the major details about fights from the board.

Edit:  Sweet.
hang is actually...

Eh, I'd rather see it used for gossip about the actual arena events than to see it taken over by posts like "lord fancypants was seen kissing lady poo-hah"

Things like "House Borsail fielded their stable against House Fale in a paired gladiator match with scaffolding as an attempt to re-create the battle of foo-bar.  The Fale gladiators antics were not to be missed, and they gave the Borsail stable a run for their money.... blah blah blah"

or

"In two weeks, there will be a fielded match by the Templarate, teams will be Blue and Green. Blue team will field the hardened Mul gladiator Darjhak, bred by Borsail and trained by Tor, and a half-elven thief turned gladiator who was apprehended and thrown in the arena three years ago and has managed to survive since. Green team will field a mantis gladiator KlkkWhrr owned by House Rennik, and a halfling gladiator Yar, owned by same.

Betting odds will be 3:1 Blue and 15:1 Green. Contact <some guy> to place your bets."

Could even extend it to set up rumors about grudge matches between certain gladiators...

"Rumor has it that Darjhak has it in for Dunbarren the elf after some slight in the gladiator pens. I heard a templar had to pull him off of the elf to keep him from killing him right then and there.  Since then, they've been kept isolated from one another, and they say it's for the elf's protection."

So that, when they fight, it'll have extra interest.

Could be a good way to start involving isolated gladiator PCs more with the PC populace in an indirect way.

Yeah, that's what I meant.

Actually sounds like a nice idea, at least if its to inform more people through rumors the happenings of the Arena. I notice the stalwart heros and the pitiful corpses hardly ever get rumors in the tavern boards unless its some house-sponsored RPT or tournament, not regular matches.
I tripped and Fale down my stairs. Drink milk and you'll grow Uaptal. I know this guy from the state of Tenneshi. This house will go up Borsail tomorrow. I gave my book to him Nenyuk it back again. I hired this guy golfing to Kadius around for a while.

My only issue with this is the fear that it would turn into a pissing contest, especially among the constant flow of new gladiators.

Rumor 1
"The entire city cheers Amos, who made a startling debut in the arena when he dispatched two human pickpockets!"

Rumor 2
"The entire city and also the outlying villages go totally nuts over Bob, who in his match against an elven thief earned the undying love and devotion of the crowds and is certainly a better gladiator than Amos who probably eats babies."

Otherwise I like it.

"Omit needless words." -Strunk and White.

"Simplify, simplify." Thoreau

I would suggest that only Templars or other sanctioned gladiatorial persons could post on the board.

But I strongly support this idea.

I think that, with the proper policing this could be left in the hands of the players of the gladiators themselves. Maybe it could even be structured similar to the bardic circle, wher gladiators reach certain "reputation" ranks, and their names are not included in posts about bouts until they reach a certain rank in that circle.

Until you become "fairly well known", you are "a mullish gladiator on the green team slated to fight on the tenth day of whatever."
