How would we really make this as a skill?

We could have it so that a tattooist would have to see a tattoo, before he can make it. Fix a difficulty to each tattoo, so you might be able to see how it is drawn, but wont actually be able to do it like that without working your way up from circles and squares to the intricate white pyramid with a floating rat.

Fine, fine. Here it is.

Like any other crafting skill, just have a "recipe list" that's dependant on your skill level. Maybe seperate them into categories for easy reference.

You need a tattooing kit for that.

You get a leather-strapped tattoo-artist's kit from a bag.
You hold a leather-strapped tattoo-artist's kit.

Animals
People
Abstract Designs
Symbols
Kuraci Tattoos (because you're a guilded Kuraci, perhaps with "tattoo artist" as one of your coded jobs)

a bloody jade and obsidian mask

A rich ink of a bright coral makes up the outer edges of this ring, and nestled within is a design of a just-barely dimmer hue, a stylized crimson flame whose outer edges lick at its circular confines.

It would be awesome if:

Tattooists could practice on skinned hides.

Tattooists could fail and mess up the tattoo, and perhaps even cause a nasty infection.

If you could submit your own tattoos. Let's say a character with the tattooist subguild gets three custom tattoos which you can submit and get approved.
