With the institution of the blindfighting skill, what are people's feelings on adding a command that replicates "blindness" at will for the character?

I have wanted it for RP reasons in the past...such as a character resting his or her eyes why lying around on a cot.

This skill could be turned off, perhaps, with either any use of the "look" command, or with a specific command of its own...I hesitate to suggest "open eyes" because then you might not be able to use it without standing without a code nightmare for the programmer.

The other option is a wearable item that would cause the blindness code, like a blindfold.

The possible coding nightmare I do see is that it would need to be implimented so that (like the wake command) we can't just open our eyes when blinded.

I know this has been suggested before, but a quick search didn't turn up what I was looking for.
"I have seen him show most of the attributes one expects of a noble: courtesy, kindness, and honor.  I would also say he is one of the most bloodthirsty bastards I have ever met."

All I can see from this is a bunch of people who suddenly find it IC for their chars to spar while closing their eyes. This is totally unnecessary I think. Emote closes his eyes atop ~cot works for me.
A single death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic.  Zalanthas is Armageddon.

The preferred method of getting a high blind fighting skill should remain spending a few years in Red Storm.

And?

How many kung fu movies have you seen where the master blindfolds the student and forces him to fight with his other senses?

QuoteWarriors, due to their great battle prowess
learn how to sense their opponent and what they will do through years of
practice.
Rangers and Assassins learn to attune their acute senses to
help them figure out where their enemy is.

Gotta learn somehow.

I'd like to see a way to codedly blindfold people.  And, if that were done, blindfolding yourself would make sense also.

I agree it would could likely cause a lot of blindfolded sparring among the ultra-elite characters who have finally branched the skill "blindfighting", but I still think putting a sack over someone's head before leading them to your sekrit lair so they don't learn the route should be possible.

Sitting in your comfort,
You don't believe I'm real,
But you cannot buy protection
from the way that I feel.

Since it's a branching skill, and I assume it's at a fairly high level, all people closing their eyes will do, is make them easier to hit.     Unless they are already master warriors, in what case practicing fighting blind may be one of the only challenges left to them.

I'm with Seeker on this one.  The skeezy man knows all.

There are two ways to use the ability to 'Close Eyes'. First, it can be created so that it only works in certian positions, like Watch does. Fighting sets you as having a fighting position.

Secondly, if it were all-encompassing, why wouldn't you fight like that if you could? I see nothing at all twinky about learning to fight blind while blind-folded or with your eyes shut.

Yup.  Blindfold items should definitely be implemented in my opinion

See here I was thinking you were going to make this skill so you couldn't see what was going on in the room around you, which would be kind of cool.

I'd totally dig blindfold items.  And I think it might be pretty interesting to see uber warriors spar with one on so they don't destroy the recruits around them in 3 hits.  It might not be realism but it'd definitely be fitting in a fantasy environment.

Then you could replay the Jedi training scene from Star Wars.  Except instead of a lightsaber Luke would have a stick.  And instead of a robotic zapper thingie you'd have . . . I don't know, a kylori or something.

And then when you say, "Use the force, Luke" somebody will kill you for being a filthy magicker.

I could just see a new delven tribal rite of passage where the delf must wear a blindfold and navigate across a huge section of the Abi'li Pah blind, as well as try to find and attack, say, a yompar or something. *chuckle*

Which brings up an interesting thought.  Can a person wearing a blindfold use scan/hunt?  I would lean more towards no on the first but say yes to the second since they could feel about the tracks on the ground, albeit with fairly hefty penalties.

I remember once long ago there was a blindfold ability (with special blindfold items).  Maybe it will come back?  Why did it leave to begin with?

emote shuts his eyes.

Now do that almost-extinct thingy called RolePlaying.
your mother is an elf.

I think better than shut eyes would just be blindfolds.
