What if instead of actions such as 'put axe pack' we could substitute emotes for them? For example you type in something along the lines of " put axe pack emote=  slips ~axe into her large backpack."

It would appear as: The rat-faced girl slips a long-hafted axe into her large backpack; the axe of course would be in the pack code-wise. Maybe this isn't feasable, I don't know.
ar is not about who is right, but who is left.

Sounds too abuseable to me right off the bat. Unless you meant that only "put could do it" then I'd guess it would be fine.

If Get has the ability too, then it is a bad idea.

Definatly put, maybe even give.
ar is not about who is right, but who is left.

Much like give, we'd just need a () modifier.  Replacing the code echo entirely seems unwise, and it looks like a clunky syntax anyway.

as written this won't happen, however eventually put and give will be given command emotes.

Three cheers for more () style emotes.

So far I have been loving the give command emotes.  I can't wait to get one for put. :)

Put, drop, and get would be awesome.

And make give work for giving away coins, too!

QuoteDrop                                                            (Equipment)

This command will cause your character to drop the named item on the
ground. The object must be in your inventory at the time. Dropping money
takes the form of "drop <number of coins> coins" or "drop <number of coins>
obsidian".
You can specify a temporary ldesc for the object much like the change
ldesc command (q.v.).  If you want the short description to appear
anywhere in the long description, or just want to get rid of the 'is here'
that the default automatically adds, put a '~' where you want the short
description to go.

Syntax:
  drop <object>
  drop <object> <ldesc>

Examples:
  > drop sword
  > drop 200 coins
  > drop sword buried to the hilt in the sand.
  > drop head Flies buzzing around it, ~ is stuck on a stake here.

It does.

would result in:

Tossing over a pouch, The Jherlen gives some coins to The Man.

I thought put and give already have emotes. Drink has one also.

>drop pants
You do not have that item.

Put and get do not.  Give does.  Drop has something else, instead.

It works, but the resulting echo is kind of wonky. Like the last time I tried it, it was:

>give 400 coins man (tossing over a pouch)

Tossing over a pouch, you give 400 coins to The Man.

Maybe it's been fixed since then, I dunno.

Oh, cool.

I'd been trying...

give (tossing over a pouch) 400 coins man.

That's an odd echo. What if you were to change the room echo to 'money pouch' or 'little sack' or 'big sack' instead of 'coins'?

because there is no pouch, he handed coins, honestly the (slipping a pouch across the table) type emote is an abuse of the emote code.  Find/craft/buy a pouch and put the coins in it, if that's the way you want to hand the coins over.

I almost always get money in a "pouch".  Templars give me money this way. Nobles do. Rinth rats do, (and where do they get a pouch, I wonder) and my peers do as well.  So I do it too.  And now I find that this is bad!

I see nothing abusive about emoting a pouch of coins. I have seen people emote putting a sword in their pack as wrapping it up in a bind of leather on one side of the backpack. They didn't have a scrap of leather in their inventory, and their backpack said nothing about anything like this in its description. I have emoted pitching a rock from the rubbly ground of the 'rinth at someone on more than one occasion, but I didn't spam-forage for rocks until I found one. People have emoted jarring the mugs on a bartop with a slam of their fist, but they didn't buy a bunch of mugs and line them up along the bar.

emote tosses ~you a pouch of coins. is not abusive in any shape or form that I can see. It makes the enviroment a little more real, paints the scene, and changes game mechanics of giving someone 8000 coins into something that we can visualize. I thought that was exactly what the emote command was for.

emote A short and thick male wearing a sandcloth face wrap steps up behind @ and folds his arms threateningly.
emote draws a steel sword.
emote starts casting.
Etc.
That is what I see as abuse to the emote code. Honestly, there's only so many little bags in one city and most of them key to the same stuff. I'd much rather see a small, harmless emote than someone getting 8 pouches out of their pack and digging through each of them until they find the right one and hand it over.

I believe this use of virtual purses for coins has been used for a long while and by all sorts of players and imms alike.  I was not aware it could be considered abuse of the emote code.

I've had all sorts of npcs use this exact method of a virtual purse for passing coins over.  I've seen it everywhere.  I've begun using it myself.  I find it makes things a little easier to play and makes a little more sense.

If it is abuse - I guess I'll stop the practice.

I disagree as well with this statement. I think it is more than fair to virtually assume you have a small pouch to put coins in.
ar is not about who is right, but who is left.

Ok, since you guys are apparently very sensitive about this, it's something that has happened in the past, and likely will continue to happen.  We aren't going to dock your karma for doing this, as it is a minor thing.

If you guys are looking for a way to stimulate the economy, perhaps you could find a small pouch or two, and try actually using them to give money.  But I don't expect you to actually do it.

Sorry to ruffle your tail feathers.

If they were made more available.. I would use them, but since I have to track down the one moving Pc in either city to buy them, I'd rather just RP it out and save up for mul mix.

In my experience, there are pouches readily available in large quantities in every major starting locale.

I love how as my character continues on their merry way, I accumulate more and more container items, that are also empty.  Maybe you could use "a plain bag" and just pretend it's sized like a small pouch.

What about skewers for people cooking?  Punk-sticks to light pipes with?  A makeshift harness on a kank?

People like props.

Personally, I've used purses when available, and virtual ones when not.
quote="CRW"]i very nearly crapped my pants today very far from my house in someone else's vehicle, what a day[/quote]

Personally, I think that minor props are fine.  Every single character I have ever had has always had a rag with them.  They use the rag to clean off their sword, wipe their face, wrap up bloody meat, wrap up travel cakes together, and everything else under the sun.  Could I go get a dozen rags and stuff them in my pack?  Sure, but I think it would be far more distracting to spam getting a rag from my pack, emote wrapping up some meat, then put the rag and the meat pack in my pack... for what?  It isn't like anyone is going to steal my rag.  Nor is it unreasonable ot assume that my character has a few rags on their persona.

Some props are just more of a pain in the ass to get then they are worth.  They are either hard to find or spammy to use.  Rags, tiny coin pouches that are just glorified folded rags, and things like that to me are just not worth the spam.

Quote from: "Morgenes"I'll see what I can make happen.
Toss 'A grubby boy sits here by the stoop, seeling coin bags.' in front of the bank locals in the game and give him the following items:
1. a small coin pouch (holds 1-500 coins) - 1 obsidian coin
2. a medium coin pouch (holds 501-1000 coins) - 2 obsidian coins
3. a large coin purse (holds 1001-2500 coins) - 3 obsidan coins

Someone will suggest that the pouchs will be abused and used for other shit. Well, I know for a fact that items can be restricted in their use, such as knife belts. Therefore, restrict these pouchs' use to strictly coins.

Additionally, make giving someone more than 50 coins without a purse impossible. Make it so that you can handle as many coins as you want to, but you can't give them to anyone without a purse. That way, you can still do purchases and so forth and move them around just however you like between chests and so on, but you can't do an exchange without the purses.

In my humble opinion, some things are better left virtual.

It makes things much more seamless.

I will stop emoting virtual pouches if it is some horribly abusive thing to do.

But I will sure as fuck not start carrying around fifty little coinpouches to use whenever I want to get a damned ale. It's already bad enough when I see:

The man opens a backpack.

The man gets a pile of coins from a backpack.

The man closes a backpack.

The man gives the bartender many coins for an ale.

The man opens a backpack.

The man puts a pile of coins into a backpack.

The man closes a backpack.

Now.. you want people to add four more lines of spam to that?  Heh.
