Refuses to move

It would be cool if on top of not moving sometimes your mount went 1 tick to far if you didn't know how to ride.
If you gaze for long enough into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.

Or if suddenly it went "RAWR!!!" and tried to eat you.

I think eating habits are a moot point once something has decided to kill you.

The statement clearly specifies that the mount (not necessarily a kank you unperceptive bastard(s)) intends to devour you.

Everything is carnivorous when Halaster is around.
Anyway, in response to the OP's idea, I like it. I'm in favor of more varied failure and success results for pretty much any skill you name. Maybe if you screw up your ride check, you travel an extra room, or go in the wrong direction, or the mount starts running when you don't want it to? Maybe sometimes when you try to steal something, you succeed, but you showed such an utter lack of finesse that your mark knows you took it? Maybe if you fail a spell, instead of just fizzling, it blows up in your face, or hits an innocent bystander?
Anyway, even though everyone decided to be wacky, I think the original idea has merit.

That'd be really cool. Especially on House outtings.

Oh, and Halaster's idea has happened to one of my previous characters, unfortunately, minus the "RAWR"ing.

The consequences of your mount refusing to move at a critical moment are already harsh enough.  Additional consequences are really unnecessary to impress upon people the importance of learning how to ride well -before- they enter into dangerous situations.

These extra suggestions might seem amusing now, but all in all they'll just be minor nuisances to overcome en route to being an expert rider.

So, thumbs down.

Might be cool, too, if there were a small chance of the mount "bucking" and throwing off an inexperienced rider even when they try to just move -- not merely in the other circumstances you may have seen them buck/throw off a rider.
