Indeed, there are forms of marriage on Zalanthas.

However, there is no code for it.  If your character and another get together and go that route, cool beans, but you just RP it out, and there isn't really a set ceremony of any sort for it.

Oh, just to add, since you seem new, people on Zalanthas are pretty racist.  Typically, you won't see humans and elves getting together, at least not in a lasting relationship of any sort.

Half-elfs, often referred to as half-breeds, do find themselves baring the brunt of alot of racist remarks and such, but probably not to the extent that elves do (from humans).  Human and half-elfs do get together on occasion, but it isn't exactly a regular thing.  Such a couple can probably expect societal pressure and remarks, making a lasting relationship dificult.

New players are often advised to try humans there first couple times out.

This is from the introductory information on the races, specifically regarding half-elves:

Roleplaying: Accepted by neither humans nor elves, half-elves tend to be extremely self-reliant, and they pride themselves on this trait. Half-elves try to do everything for themselves, such as hunting for their own meals and camping well apart from others they are with. Despite this, half-elves typically try to gain acceptance by elves or humans and will go out of their way toward that end.

More information on half-evles and other races can be found at: http://www.armageddon.org/general/races.html

Also it would be a good idea to look through all the help files if you haven't already, located here: http://www.armageddon.org/help/index_frames.html

Often humans and half-elves will receive the same sort of racist treatment from elves as well.

In fact, from what I've seen, many elves can be even more racist to half-elves than humans are, but that also depends on the elves.

Desert elves tend to be more racist to all races than even humans, city elves less so since they generally have more contact with other races in a city environment, at least less outwardly racist. It's not uncommon for d-elves to be racist to other elves as well, d-elf or city elf.

It's generally safe to assume when dealing with d-elves that unless you're a member of their tribe they're not going to enjoy dealing with you, or are going to try to take some sort of advantage of you.. well that's true of all elves, but its marked among d-elves who usually spend most of their time with their tribe.

As far as marriage, there is no "marriage" code.

Legal marriage is recognized as a business contract between noble or merchant (I think) houses. There might or might not be a ceremony, and it usually is not done out of love. Usually the lower ranked member of one house is absorbed into the other house, which offsets the marriage with some sort of monetary or social compensation. It's -all- about business.. in this case, marriage is more of a business merger.

Marriage between others in a more commoner aspect is done a few seperate ways. Most of the time it is a private affair between individuals who simply pledge their faith to each other, sometimes it's just inferred. Yes, these individuals may take up one or another's name or not. They might have a small ceremony, some sort of ritual or not. It depends on the people involved.

Marriage among tribal cultures, either human or elf is generally the most ceremonial or ritualistic. It could be anything from exchanging tokens, to claiming a mate and surviving any challenges to that claim. Marriage in tribal cultures is usually taking a permanent mate, from what I've seen, many tribal cultures have little "moral" codes being single.. there's usually no "girlfriend/boyfriend" roles... not saying for every tribe, but for what I have seen. You generally tend to know your mate from the tribe, so single you're single (everybody is usually generally open about things like sex since it goes on but there usually isn't much privacy). Once mated, you generally aren't single anymore. Again, these can range from simplistic to highly elaborate mating rituals depending on the tribe. Typically these permanent matings (marriages) are recognized and upheld by tribal custom once the rituals for them have taken place, which is why many societies, while being open while single may frown upon adultery. (Compare this to more "civilized society" where sexual relations are generally frowned upon in public, but taking a lover on the side is known and sometimes even acceptable.. think nobles and their lovers).
