Only 1,905?

Seems kinda weird to me that there are only 1,905 registered users.  Does the system go through and delete accounts that have been inactive for a while?
he machinery of government is always subordinate to the will of those who administer that machinery. The most important element of government, therefore, is the method of choosing leaders.

1) Only?

2) Not everyone who plays the game has registered on the forums, and in fact I can safely bet a lot of the people who play never even read the forums.

Ahh, that explains a lot.  No, I thought it meant registered accounts on the MUD, and for a MUD as old as Armageddon, 1,905 would be a very low number indeed.

I didn't touch my account on the forums for more then a year it was still here

my game account had an acctive character but I didn't touch the account for at least a year as well.
dd my msn if you want, longvaladrien@hotmail.com

Well...it is a good estimate of the amount of people who've ever gotten really into Armageddon. Registering a forum account is pretty damn necessary - there are tons of announcements that are only made in the Staff Announcements forum.

1905 is a good number for Armageddon. Besides who cares? It's best to go off the peak number of players online and I see it at 50-60 every night so that's not so bad.

We need an HRPT though. I think if 4-5 HRPTs are done every year you'll get more and more players playing consistently. But it also has a lot to do with keeping interest in the character. Which is the job of the leader PCs and the staff clan imms.

Yes, it's their job to hand-hold you and dangle plots in front of your nose every Tuesday so you don't sit around and get bored instead of (god forbid) seeking out plots and instigating roleplay on their own.

Tuesdays work for me, I'm also open every other Thursday.  I'll be waiting in the tavern.

You mean there's not GET PLOT command you can use to get plots from the taverns?  What a gyp!

Regardless of how it was meant, I whole heartedly agree that the players who work hard to entertain and involve other players on a consistent basis, especially those in leadership positions deserve a big "thank you". You very likely don't receive enough kudo's for your efforts, but all of us, staff and players do appreciate it. We also hope you're enjoying it.

There are probably far less than 1,905 active accounts.

It's everyone's job to get plots started and get fun going, though the greater responsibility lies on the leadership roles. Personally, i shy away from immortal run plots, though, of course, my character doesn't know the different.

There's no need to be snippy.

Like it's been mentioned, "only" isn't the right word for 1,905 accounts.  We don't even have that many players.  We have that many because automated advertisers make these with their webpage on it for viagra or casinos or porn or whatever tickles your fancy.

Even though Armageddon is old, it doesn't mean it's popular.  Not a lot of people are into roleplaying consistantly, or are too used to another MUD to adapt to this one.  Think of a guy that's 95 years old and wets his pants every hour.  Think he's going to be popular?

Don't forget that the user list was reset when the new GDB went up in Sept, 2002.  I'm sure many people came and left in the 10 years prior to that.

As has been said by previous posters (and it seems worth reinforcing as staff), the GDB population isn't coupled in any way to the game account database.  People here are not required to use their game account-names.  Many people create multiple GDB accounts to obscure their clan identities, for example, and others still use different GDB account names than their game account names to protect at least one-half of their game-account login/password (virtual identity theft is real  :).  Still others have no interest in the GDB and simply play the game.   Finally, there seems also to be a not-insignificant population of people who post here after having "retired" from the game months or even years ago.

The game itself, since implementing the initial accounts system, has had just a bit over 7,000 accounts.  Right now, there seem to be somewhere around 200 different account logins per two-week-period or so (which might be a clue about an "active accounts" metric, but probably isn't a great one).

I have a feeling in my gut we only have round about 250 dedicated players........I'm certain that all these new Gnb members are bots. See how they all use caps? and see how there website is all the same? Bots. It's sad we don't have as many people as we'd like playing the best game in the world.....I think we should work on advertising a bit....just a thought.

You could go to other dicussion boards and posts links to Arm's pages, Ritley. ;)  They do advertise.  They have Arm listed on almost all the mud lists, and they just handed out hundreds or maybe it was thousands of flyers at a huge gaming convention.  And in another thread you'll see the poll on how most people got here (via friends), so go and tell your friends, Ritley.
es, Narnia, the film that teaches kids that Jesus is a lion that kills people by biting them in the face...

Please do not go to other discussion boards and post links to Arm's pages.  If you want to become involved in the publicity group, that's fine, but unless you are a member, we'd rather not have you spamming other people's boards/websites with Arm ads (and if you are, you'll know better).  This topic is pretty much derailed, so let's get back on focus here.

Sorry Xy... I was just making a  tongue-in-cheek reference to another thread on this GDB.  I wasn't being serious.  :)  Cheers.

Heh. Don't have any friends. Well none that would understand the concept of RP and hell if I have to explain it to them....Yeah Xygax I understand that I'm not a member of staff and wouldn't post links.

They changed the gdb server in 2002 or 3.
