FIRE!!!

Started by Asnoboy, August 18, 2005, 10:08:09 PM

Imagine a ranger, surviving in the desert despite all the efforts the IMMs have done to make it deadly, hunts a creature, skins it.... ok, he likes his meat cooked, he is no mantis, you know. Now, he has two pieces of rock that can make some sparks... good, lets start a fire.....  :!:  :?:  mmm...... With what? There are not any kind of wood or something burnable in abundance, or ... at all? Surely i'm missing something here, but, seems fire is not a -rare- thing, is it?

Never thought of it, and i wish i never did...... :P
Enjoy the power

Arm is evil.  And I love it.  It's like the softest, cuddliest, happy smelling teddy bear in the world, except it is stuffed with meth needles that inject you everytime

For the ranger bit: Perhaps he doesn't use a fire. Maybe he lays out thin strips on a piece of dark rock during high sun. It's not to health code standards of today's restaurants, but I imagine it would get hot enough to not be a bloody, chewy mess. Of course, that's presumption that may have no actual scientific foundation.

As far as fires, it doesn't seem like they're uncommon. It's a good question, that I'm curious about now, myself. I always picture hunting parties and tribals and such sitting around fires at night, but I couldn't tell you what I thought they'd be made from. =P
eeling YB, you think:
    "I can't believe I just said that."

I've always emoted gathering a bit of dried growth. Even in the desert you can emote picking up a few spare pieces of dried old virtual cactus or a stunted little bush, or take an arrow out of your quiver, emote snapping it into a few tiny pieces, and then junk it... Or burn some shavings from a virtual brick of dried erdlu dung. Mmm.

Virtual objects are fun, in instances like this.

We were somewhere near the Shield Wall, on the edge of the Red Desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

irl, people in areas where there wasn't much wood available wood would use dried animal dung as fuel, it works, as long as it was dry enough.... which shouldn't be a problem in zalanthas.

I've also used a dark stone that has been lying in the sun for some time, that stuff should get as hot aas a frying pan  :D
A rusty brown kank explodes into little bits.

Someone says, out of character:
"I had to fix something in this zone.. YOU WEREN'T HERE 2 minutes ago :)"

A ranger can make a fire....just think logical...hhhmm...need stuff to burn, more then one, one stick does  not make a good campfire...and then think crafting code.

Now, in some areas, like high desert...heh, yes, nice chunk of black rock should do ya fine.
A gaunt, yellow-skinned gith shrieks in fear, and hauls ass.

If you -want- me to think that your character is a hybrid of a black kryl and a white push-broom shaped like a penis, then you've done a great job

There is not a lot of wood in zalanthas, but...

Many areas are loaded with scrub, cactus, other little, fairly dry plants and such.

Also, as per native americans and other olden time folks, the wilds are full of creatures. Creatures make dung. Dried dung burns very well, and was often used for cooking durring the "western eras" and earlier.

Mmmm...dung smoked meat....  :P

May the fap be with you, always. ;D

If you look at help fire, you can see a way to craft a fire.  The thing is, I can't find a way to get it to work.
Any questions, comments, or condemnations to an eternity of fiery torment?

Waving a hammer, the irate, seething crafter says, in rage-accented sirihish :
"Be impressed.  Now!"

Start with 'forage kindling' a few times in an appropriate area to get some things to burn. Then craft them into 'a campfire' like you would craft anything else. Once the fire is going, you can put flammable things into it to keep it going.
