National Holidays

With the reliability and slow-down of time one thing that can now happen is for regular holidays to occur. The way I see it, the two things that made this difficult was that the IC-date when a public holiday would happen was likely to be skipped. The other problem was that 3 weeks was never enough time to organise something. Now we have twice as long.

Now the chance of something being skipped has lessened considerably and there is a lot more time for things to be planned.

I can see national holidays occuring every 2nd year, or every year, and the celebrations being very different each time. Maybe Kurac holds a pepper competition each year. Or maybe Tuluk holds an annual bardic competition. Or every New Year Kurac holds a mini-gladiator event (well, it might be a bit difficult with losing Luir's).

I was just wondering what everyone thought about the idea of having more structured and regular RPTs of this sort. Sure, some people hold different competitions every now and then. But I think it'd be a cool if the events themselves corresponded with more regular IC-dates. So if Group X holds regular RPTs, have them chose the dates for significant reasons instead of "now because we felt like it" ;)

I like this idea, but to add a piece of constructive criticism, each holiday would have to span the course of a game week.  One IC day just isn't long enough to hold these kind of events to the point where they are both enjoyable by all, and profitable.  So maybe along the lines of three OOC days or something like that.  Otherwise, I think this is a fantastic idea.

A regular week-long festival does sound interesting.

It would garner a lot of intercity-state traffic as well.

I love ya John but national holiday is a bit too real world for me. I'd love to see more (noble house sponsored) festivals like the one that took place in Allanak not too long ago but no Sorceror King proclaimed yearly holiday. Yuck.
I'm taking an indeterminate break from Armageddon for the foreseeable future and thereby am not available for mudsex.

In law a man is guilty when he violates the rights of others. In ethics he is guilty if he only thinks of doing so.

Also, with the new time-code change, it should be a lot easier to celebrate the celestrial-based holidays, such as the changing from Descending Sun to Low Sun, Lowest Sun (takes place in the exact middle of Low Sun), Low Sun to Ascending Sun, and the New Year (High Sun).

With the entire calendar being based off the positions of the Sun and Moons, there would more than likely be quite a few celebrations based around them as well.
When we found her Marnlee mornin',
Hoofprints walking up her back
There were empties by her war braids
And sixty-five dead carru in a stack.

I can see Allanak having a festival based around the time Tek broke the slave revolt.  The built a gigantic statue, a temple and changed some of the templar medallions to commemorate it, why not a holy day too?

The Liberation of Tuluk was recent enough that it would be plausible for there to be a festival commemorating it even without tieing it into the religion/government.  A time for people to share their war stories, or their parents war stories, buy a drink for you favorite Legonair, and remember just how barbaric and nasty southerners are.
