Which movie will win the Oscar for Best Picture this year?

Which movie should win?

The nominees are:

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
Lost in Translation
Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World
Mystic River
Seabiscuit

Feel free to give your other Oscar picks too.

I saw three of them: Mystic River, Return of the King, and Lost in Translation. While they were all good and enjoyable, of the three, I sincerely hope Lost in Translation wins, because it was a lovely, smart, subtle film.

The only one I saw was Return of the King, which, while really good, I don't think is really deserving of a 'Best Picture'. I definately think that RoTK should sweep alot of the other Oscars, though, including best sound, editing, and especially best special effects. I think it will also pick up best Direction.

Of course, I also think they should have renamed that movie from 'Return of the King' to 'Rohan Kicks Ass'.

I think Lord of the Rings was fairly good and deserved a nomination.  And possibly -should- win.

Lost in Translation, I thought, was really slow and depressing (with a bad morale).  I don't think it should have even been nominated.  But as far as a piece of art, and the message it was trying to convey, I think it did a good job.

When Master and Commander first came out, I was real excited about it.  When I saw it I was disappointed a little, I felt it could have been better.  I think Return of the King was much better.  As much as I liked the idea of this movie, it somehow didn't measure up to my expectations.

Mystirc River:  I didn't see this one and know little or nothing about it.

Seabiscuit:  I didn't see it until it came out on DVD but I loved it.  Out of all the nominees, I think it should win over all (with The Return of the King a close second).

Lost in Translation.

If only it were nominated.

I haven't seen Lost in Translation yet. Mystic River was a well done film, with great actors and excellent direction. Though it was a good screen play, with a heavier hand or less brilliant casting it wouldn't have achieved the same level of sublime excellence. But everything came together and it's a brilliant film. I hope it wins.

I enjoyed ROTK, but don't think it deserves best pic.

I hear great things about House of Sand and Fog, though I haven't seen it, and may not. I loved the book too much to watch the film. I thought it had been nominated. No?

Ask me if I'm a tree

Lost in Translation because of the lovely miss Scarlet Johannsen. Not to mention Sophia Coppola, who was pretty-much bound to do great-things because of her name and for a 24 day shoot she did wonders. Plus Bill Murray, even while aging is still a great actor... and its nice to see him do a non-zany role.

I recommend anyone who hasn't seen it to pick it up on DVD or VHS February 2nd at your local Wal-Mart (plug for my work.)

(And I'd rather see Pirates of the Carribean win then Master and Commander. For all Russel Crowe's work its not that great of a movie, and there are many more interesting sea-epics out there, if lacking in the hollywood polish and an almost poignant stab at Oscar-recognition. If not for past recognition I'dve happily seen it go to the Peter Jackson/New-line behemoth, but I think they've more then been appreciated in their excellent work. Admittedly I didn't see Mystic River. I didn't like Seabiscuit because its not really my flavor. The other one, House of Sand and Fog I didn't even hear of, until that one lady got nominated for best supporting Actress... the Iraqi, [might've won it, I don't recall], so also can't judge.)
