Old player looking to return, any place to see a list of changes to the game?

Hi everyone,

Old player here, probably last played around 6 or 7 years ago.  I remember at the time there was talk of extended subguilds but it hadn't been implemented yet.  Taking a brief look at the documentation it looks like a -lot- has changed in the last few years.  So that's great, almost like a new game to explore.  That said, I'm feeling a little lost and have a few questions.

1)  Is there a list of major updates anywhere?

2)  Can someone point me to a list of keyboard commands for emotes?  I'm totally forgetting all the formatting for pre- command and post- command flair.  And are there any major new commands when playing the game that I should be aware of?

3)  Looks like the karma system has changed quite a bit and it looks like I've been reset to 0 karma.  Was there a karma purge at some point?  This is a small point but I was hoping to try out an extended subguild.

Thanks for any help in advance.

I remember you - or at least your username.

Karma wasn't purged, it got condensed (max karma is three) and it is spent and regenerates  at a rate of once a month now. If you had karma before, you should still have it, but the move to a spending system has been a bit buggy for some people.

Here is an incomplete list of changes https://gdb.armageddon.org/index.php/topic,53922.0.html

Most commands now have both pre-emotes (use () ) and post-emotes that show up after the command (use []). Examples are in this helpfile http://www.armageddon.org/help/view/Command%20Emotes

As for new commands, sleight of hand has seen some changes and you can do a lot more of it than before, including sneakily open closed containers. It's great for pickpockets. I'm not sure how long that has been around though.

Have fun! I had a blast when I came back after a break this long.

Someone says, out of character:
"I had to fix something in this zone.. YOU WEREN'T HERE 2 minutes ago :)"

It probably is a bit daunting these days coming back, I know I had to double check help files, and wrack half remembered corners of my brain, but it does all come back, and the game is a -lot- better for the changes. The links Nao provided should get you most of the way there.

I promise I won't accidentally kill your character in a forest this time and everything! (Still very sorry about that :( )

Thanks!  These should be just what I need.  Looks like a ton has changed but half the fun is learning the game and exploring.

As for killing a PC of mine Cendell, you'll have to be more specific.  I've had a few long-lived PCs but a lot more were corpses littering the sands.

Well this one was a Templar, that my poor Sun Legion Private was supposed to be guarding.

Brute Kryl had other ideas. Must have been oh...eight, nine years ago :)

Either way, glad to see you back!

If you are hoping to try out an extended subguild or make a character in general, I made this tool which is up to date with the new guilds/subguilds https://tristearmageddon.github.io/arma-guild-picker/

non-touched gicks, psi, templar, etc not included because their skill lists are not public.

message me if something there needs an update.

I came back to the game 2 years ago after a complete break of about 5 years.  I was hooked again pretty darned quickly and still am.  :-)

I recall that when I came back I found it helpful to skim the release notes found here:

Then go to help files for anything that needed more explanation than what was outlined there.

Be aware that when you start reading about the karma system that there has been a relatively recent tweak to it.  You need a minimum of 1 karma to select an extended sub-guild but you don't actually use any up like you once did.  And also you regen a karma point every 30 days instead of the kind of complicated karma regen system there once was.

Welcome back!  I hope you have a blast.  And don't worry, all the basics will come back to you very quickly.
