Basic things you've never done

Started by MeTekillot, February 19, 2016, 06:43:09 AM

Name off basic things you've never done, despite how long you've been here (or how briefly you've been here).

I have:
never poisoned a weapon successfully
never successfully poisoned someone at all with anything
never pkilled someone alone
never insta-gibbed with a backstab
never landed a sap
never hit another player with archery
never landed a charge
never branched charge
never branched on a ranger
never played a ranger past 5 days (rangers are for disgusting casuals)
never branched an advanced weapon skill
never fully branched a magicker
never seen actual sorcery
never paid to have someone killed

I've never:
Chopped someone with a bone sword
PK'd someone on my own
Saved someone's life through bandaging
Successfully mugged someone (streets or otherwise)
Been outright killed by a Templar
Been to Spain (but I kinda like the music)
Played a successful burglar
Mastercrafted an item that others found useful or interesting

.... There's actually a lot of stuff I HAVE done over my time, when I think about it.

I've never done a lot, actually, for the time I've been here. Its because I always play one of the three things I enjoy doing most.

I've never

hunted more than twice on a single character
burglarized a home or apartment
mugged
branched a merchant more than twice
fully branched a witch
been wanted outside of Tuluk

or made it to trooper in the Byn, though I've played practically all of my combat characters there and have spent significant time there.

I saved someone through bandaging once! Was just randomly exploring and came across them incapped. I didn't have any bandages though so I had to steal their cloak, shirt, and pants to rip into bandages to give it a try. Was a little awkward with them waking up naked.

Never did any of those other things though.

Never played a mage longer than 2 weeks RL, or cast a spell that I branched.
Never played anything other than warriors, rangers, or one particular mage guild.
Never been willfully PKed (except maybe that one time)
Never played above recruit in a Merchant House
Never died exploring
Never played in the rinth

I've also never played in the rinth in the sense that I played a rinther who lived there.

Explored it plenty, but never "lived" in the rinth with a PC.

There is a decent possibility I have never even played an actual rinther who lived for more than an hour.

If I did, I can't remember them.

I played a deadly 60 day assassin that everyone knew was an assassin. Nobody wanted me to kill anyone.

Don't really need assassins when you have templars and backrooms, unfortunately.
Now you're looking for the secret. But you won't find it because of course, you're not really looking. You don't really want to work it out. You want to be fooled.

Did you assassinate someone and have everyone know it was you? That's how you get customers. You have to pull it off once yourself.

Everyone in Tuluk (that mattered) knew I was a freelance assassin for hire. And that I was no slouch at smacking things either.

Pretty sure my point stands. Don't need assassins when there is no consequence to killing in your own backroom. Or when you can hire templars as your personal thugs.

I actually had a noble tell me to my face they didn't need to hire me when they had Templars who would do their bidding for them much cheaper.

I had another noble tell me to my face, an Oashi, that they had their own employees (magickers) who could arguably do it better, cheaper, and safer.

There are definitely situations where you want someone killed but don't have the Templarate/magickers at your disposal, or a mark dumb enough to wander into your apartment unprepared. I don't really buy the idea that there's no need for assassins.

I got a few jobs.

I just found it unnerving that I got told straight to my face by some sponsored roles that they had zero use for an assassin and even went into detail about why.

Templars and magickers fill that role for them cheaper and more safely.

The jobs I ended up doing were typically for commoners who couldn't really afford to pay for an assassin but I was bored and took the job anyways, or for friends with enemies where I was doing "free work", basically.

Hands down THE most regular job offer I received was from multiple Templars who wanted me to go hunt rogue magickers in the desert. They always offered between 500 and 1,000 coins for this.

Yeah sure Mister/Miss Templar, I'm going to get right on that. Thanks for wasting an hour and a half of my time pulling me into your dumbass meeting.

^^^ yeah.

My problem is that a templar is asking an city-based assassin to work in the desert, and less so with the price.

For rogue witches you want bounty hunters, not cityslickers, heh.

I was waiting for this.

Now you're looking for the secret. But you won't find it because of course, you're not really looking. You don't really want to work it out. You want to be fooled.

I've never played a thief.

I've never played in Salarr.

I've never played a southern templar.

I've never played a vivaduan, elkran, or nilazi.

I've never played in the rinth (except that one character I rolled up right before taking a long break, then stored, so it doesn't really count).

I've never played in one of the coded tribal clans, except Sun Runner.

I've never played a long-lived merchant ... I start wanting to explore, or to chop mofuggas up with bone swords.

I've never played a dwarf.

I've never played a half-giant.

I played maybe five pcs in the rinth before I got tired of it forever.

One was a ranger/scavenger (back when scavenger foraged food) who was not really a rinthi, but the daughter of a sewer/cave hermit. Good times.

I've never played a character who was 100% completely and totally loyal to the clan/employer he was part of.

I've never played a character who wasn't 100% completely and totally loyal to the clan/employer he was part of.

Loyalty is such a fungible thing though.  If you have a "bad" boss, would killing them be disloyal to the clan?  No!  You'd be doing them a favor...    ;D

Played a gicker and given two shits about the magic code or even doing magic-y stuff. (they were throw aways to ---i admit--- try and get karma to play a mul...)

Played a noble (i don't count elves).

Played any sponsored role for that matter (gladiators don't count).
Czar of City Elves.

Your characters are badass enough as is - it'd be scary to see what you'd do with a mul  :o

I think the best way to develop a game world is by letting the players influence it as much as possible

I love the whole, clan mentality that exists for clans other than the Byn (who are all just a bunch of beefy jerks eating soup and making fun of each other) where eventually you will do most things for your clannies and your leader that you would do for your own family. A friend of mine likes having conflict better, doing things to shake things up at the cost of convenience, safety and free food. To each their own.

I like playing characters who are rebellious to their clan in ways. Stir the pot, piss people off. That's the only way to have fun when you aren't sparring/choring or RPTing.

I've never played in any coded desert elf tribe other than Soh Lanah Kah and no city tribe other tthe Akai Sjir. (No Sun Runners, Red Fang, ATV, or Jaxa Pah :( )
