NPC Ubervision!

All right, as I've already (a LOOONG time ago) lost a pc to this, and just today nearly lost another, I figured I'd throw up a post and see what people think.

Nightime, sandstorm....you can't see your hand in front of your face.
But somehow that raptor/soldier/gortok/tembo/insert-nasty-creature-here can see you quite well, and moves in to bite you in a very icky manner. As you stumble about blinded it manages to chase you, continuing it's mean attacks upon your poor, soft little body.

Okay, now...I can see this making total sense for cilops, as well as anything else used to hunting blind...but what about everything else? Shouldn't they be just as blinded as my poor little pc? I lost a PC to soldiers in Allanak because this, a long, long time ago...and it seemd very unfair to me then as well.
Any thoughts?

I'd agree on this.  It seems like the aggro code totally ignores visibility.

This sorta ties in with another thread, about being inside the gates and seeing 3 rooms out.. but taking one step out you can't see anything, just because there's a storm.

Maybe it has to do with the aggro code and it's just a limitation of the code? If not, I agree, critters should only be able to chase you/attack you/see you if it makes sense for that kind of critter to do it.

Some of these I would agree on, like soldiers and such.  But you have to realize that most of your non-mammals, even some mammals, will most likely have some way other than standard vision to see you with.

Quote from: "Animal Doc: Raptor"A common ploy is to hide in the rocks or dunes above, after using their sense of smell to track their prey -- then leap down upon the unsuspecting victim.

If a raptor happens to be down wind of you durring that storm, more than likely it knows to stay down wind when chasing you, as they are probably very used to the climate in Vrun Driath.

Any of your creatures that live close to the Sea of Silt have more than likely developed some other means of tracking prey than vision as that area is almost constantly in a storm.

So yes, some things should not be able to find you in that storm, but some should.
When we found her Marnlee mornin',
Hoofprints walking up her back
There were empties by her war braids
And sixty-five dead carru in a stack.

True, but do you honestly think something is going to be able to -effectively- hunt you down in the middle of a sandstorm by smell? The winds alone I would think would make it nearly impossible to peg an exact location of the source of the offensive odor, let alone chase it 8 or 9 leagues through one.

I agree with Drunkdwarfie there. I can see how one might pounce you if you got near it. But if you ran away unless its a Psicaster Raptor then you should be able to loose it. .... Krath.... I hope I didnt just reveal something very IC.

The sand hued raptor sends you a message

" I see sand covered people "
A single death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic.  Zalanthas is Armageddon.

The ubervision is bad enough, but what is worse is the "ring of infinite stamina" That certain hunting creature/npc's seem to have ingested, It's like being hunted by a T1000, He never eats, he never sleeps or rests, and he just keeps coming untill you are dead or he is destroyed.

Oh, and on that point, would a smaller then man sized predator really charge into an area with a small army of soldiers watching the gates to get a meal?
A gaunt, yellow-skinned gith shrieks in fear, and hauls ass.
