Prompt: tdesc

Started by Myra, January 28, 2012, 10:01:20 PM

There's a prompt option that lets you return whether or not you have an altered ldesc, but nothing for tdescs. Ldescs change when you stand or move, but tdescs don't, and so they're more likely to be out of place with the passage of time. An option to add a [tdesc] tag to the prompt, like the current [ldesc] tag that lets you know it is altered, would be a very helpful in reminding players to change/update tdescs with time. I know that I forget about them all the time, and that the [ldesc] tag has helped me to better utilize ldescs.

Would this even be possible?

prompt %h/%H, %v/%V, %t/%T, %w, %e, check your tdesc>

A tdesc can be several lines long. Do you really want your game screen to scroll several lines, with every single line of input/output? You'd most likely end up seeing your tdesc more than you'd see anything else. Combat, even with brief set, would be a textual nightmare.

You can type LOOK ME to see your tdesc any time you want. I type LOOK ME fairly often, at least twice an hour, right along with stat score inv time who

I think he meant, a prompt to tell you whether or not you HAD a tdesc, not the tdesc itself.

Personally, I liked it when the tdesc reset each time you logged in/out.

If you have a few you always/often set, just set up a trigger or something?

Heh, good idea, I've been copy/pasting them line by line.

I much prefer them to stay after logging out.

Oh my god he's still rocking the sandwich.

I could see it being really unwieldy if the whole tdesc showed up in your prompt.  But maybe just a tdesc prompt that notified you whether you had one set would remind you to take a look at yourself, if you wanted that.

Well, I meant a [tdesc] tag, just like how you can set your prompt to give an [ldesc] tag whenever you have an ldesc. It disappears when you don't have one, so it's only a reminder when you need it. :) Not the whole tdesc.

I think Synthesis pretty much said it:
