Joining the same clan twice in a row.

I, as a player, have a few clans I particularly like, and just wanted to know if I could like... stick to a particular one over the course of a few characters, instead of jumping around randomly.

So, my question is, is it allowed, or considered bad form, if a player makes two characters in a row that seek to be in the same clan?

OLs are like HLs on steroids. They make the Really Big Decisions that affect the course of the entire game.

Our mud is still pretty small, so sometimes this is inevitable.  That said, you should avoid it, if at all possible.  In fact, I recommend choosing a different starting-location from character-to-character, if you can, and preferably to attempt a role that is totally foreign to the role your last character had.  That's hard to do, but I think it is the best way to squeeze the most fun out of the game.

You should do what's fun for you, but be really careful about crossing OOC lines.  It's easier to avoid crossing OOC lines if your character doesn't interact with people/places/things of which your last character had intimate knowledge.

There's no rule against this, but it might be considered a very mild case of bad form depending on the staffer.

If you're planning on hopping into the same clan twice, be sure that the characters are quite obviously very different. Otherwise you fall into the trap of basically being the same character in a different body, with the same friends, enemies, lovers, etc. And that is bad form.

It is always a good idea to contact the staff member of the clan you were recently a part of and ask them if they mind you coming back with another role.  As Cavaticus said, it depends on the staffer, but getting a thumbs-up in advance is a good thing.

With that in mind, I do not think it's a good idea to try to join the same clan three times or more in a row.  Get some diversity, go enjoy some other location and peoples, and then come back with a fresh and eager outlook to your beloved clan.
I seduced the daughters of men
And made the death of them.
I demanded human sacrifices
From the rest of them.
I became the spirit that haunted
And protected them.
And I lived in the tower of flame
But death collected them.

There's good advice here, and I would even suggest extending this advice to non-consecutive roles.

I have seen many players get stuck in a rut trying to recreate the enjoyment they had with a previous PC.  And when I say 'many' I mean I can list 10 people off the top of my head, including myself.

These players had a great character that they enjoyed, often very early in their player career, perhaps their first long-lived PC.  And then they spend the next 2 RL years trying to recreate the enjoyment they had with that character.

The fact is, that first great PC was great because they were figuring things out as they went along.  You'll never be able to get that back with another PC.  You'll have to enjoy figuring something else out with a different clan, race, city, or class.

Like others have said, there's no rule against going where you've gone before.  But we definitely recommend exploring new territory.
