Just a reminder...

I want to draw some attention to the GDB rules and remind you all that the GDB isn't intended to a fighting arena.  It's for this community to discuss things about the game (and sometimes not) in a constructive manor.   It can be a great place with many intelligent ideas and viewpoints, but when some threads have become heated, I've noticed some unnecessary disrespect.  If you want to disagree, disagree. Please don't be rude or make personal attacks.

This board is for general discussion of Armageddon MUD. No flames, no IC-sensitive information.

1. Please don't flame. While you can criticize the opinions of other people, do so with respect for them as a fellow human.

2. Do NOT post information that is IC-sensitive. While debates over definitions of this term have raged in the past on the discussion boards, one fact has emerged: some people really prefer to experience things in the game, rather than inadvertently have the experience spoiled for them from reading this board. Therefore, when asking yourself whether or not what you're posting is too IC-sensitive, err on the side of caution.

3. We reserve the right to edit or delete any post or thread.

4. If you are abusing the PM privilege, your ability to send PMs will be removed. Attempts to get around such a removal by creating alternate accounts will result in the banning of your game account. Abuse includes persistent flaming, trolling, or harassing other players. If you feel you are being harassed and have already politely requested the harasser stop, please forward a copy of your request along with PMs received after the request was made and received to the mud account to be dealt with. Attempts to provoke other players into such a situation so you can request that they be banned will be treated as trolling.

Totally independent of Myrdryn, I posted this post down in Idle OOC Chatter:

Guys, I'm going to be the one to say it. This forum has gotten way, way, way, way out of hand. You all need to step back, cool down, stop flaming each other and stop trying to "win" the GDB by out-arguing each other.

I can't speak for other staff, but I'm not interested in playing Internet Referee or GDBabysitter. I realize this is The Internet, and as such anyone who reads forums does so at their own risk. You all are mature, intelligent people and I really would like nothing more than to have this be an off-topic forum where we can showcase the interests, intelligence and well-thought-out musings of our players.

AT THE SAME TIME... we are responsible for the environment of our game, which includes the GDB and everything on it. We are responsible (and as players, so are you) for presenting Armageddon in the best light we can, to attract new players and interest of the greater mud community. You want new players, right? I think it'll be a lot easier to get them if the GDB isn't such a toxic fireball of trolling as it has been lately.

I wish I saw the same effort and energy you all expend flaming and attacking each other going into posts about IC topics in the other forums. I wish I saw that energy being used to promote the game or enrich the world through your own characters. I wish it were being used to reflect positively on our community rather than 10-page long flamefests. I have faith that all of you are capable of that. Please don't prove me wrong.

Now that the election is over, I have one simple request: let's get this forum back to interesting, intelligent, non-contentious topics (or at the very least, contentious topics being discussed in a respectful way.) A good place to start would be giving politics, religion, abortion et al a rest for a while. You guys have done all of that to death. Enjoy the GDB and express yourselves, but please stop making it practically an embarrassment to the game.

Thanks.
