I got up a thread from wizards of the coast on Dark Sun animals... I guess we could use those as a reference for the picture in our minds.
I got a few pictures, so here we go.

Do you watch Wyldboyz?  While they're in Arkansas or somewhere else southern, they find this gnarly old dude in the wilderyland that has a pet Alligator Snapping Turtle.  Weighs like 50 or 60 lbs, it's fucking berko huge.  Manny picks it up by the shell, and Chris puts a raw chicken leg on a stick and holds it in his mouth.  When that snapper comes down on the chicken leg, you can hear the bone snap like a dry twig.  Youch!
