Apartment Rental

Hey, I have a question about renting WITH someone. I already have an apartment and wanted to invite a buddy of mine to offset the steep price of renting. Can I add his character to the 'rental' agreement now, or do I have to wait until I renew?
I guess I can just wait till he's on... but

You can add him any time during your "lease," but he has to be with you when you do it.
