New Quasi-nosave Command

Do you like the idea of a new NOSAVE that only causes you to surrender if the person acting upon you has a law enforcement flag?

I love it!

- - I actually emailed this idea in earlier, but I thought I might get some feedback. I have suggested a new command, similar to NOSAVE. The new command would cause you to fail all saving throws, but only if the person attempting to do whatever was flagged as a guard/templar. I think NORESIST would be an appropriate name. When NORESIST is on, your character would surrender to the law, but not fall while trying to flee to the rooftops or let a passing defiler turn him/her into a kank.

- - The obvious question is "Why?". Well, if my character is a thief, he's going to give up on the spot if a templar/guard is trying to subdue him. However, if there isn't a guard trying to subdue me right then, I want to know I can attempt to climb to a rooftop to escape. I want to know if I accidentally leave it on, it's not going to have my character give up in a situation he NEVER would do so in (i.e. fall to his death because NOSAVE now causes you to fail at climbing).

- - Toggling NOSAVE on and off is deadly business. The screen lag between soldiers arriving and giving you the billianth of a second's warning, and then you typing "NOSAVE on" can kill you. In addition, your character will not resist anything, even if it would make sense to do so.

- - So, anyone else like the idea of having a new command, that acts like NOSAVE but only in regards to law enforcement (and maybe for ranking clan members if you're in that clan)?

Yes, I think this is a fantastic idea.

As you point out, either having NOSAVE on at the wrong moment or off at the wrong moment can kill your character for reasons that wouldn't be IC realistic.

I personally would love to second this idea.  It takes forgetting to turn nosave off or on just one time to make your life suck.  My last character (whom I was growing very fond of) met his untimely demise in an absolutely foolish way because I forgot to flip on the old no-save, and I am one who generally goes out of his way live as long as inhumanly possible.  It is maddening to see the screen spam and realize a second later your mistake as the mantis head comes to greet you.  If it is possible, just make people in the appropiate clans get nosaves against you.

Or maybe a new command that just lets you submit to authorities.

A good idea, could cause a few problems under odd circumstances... A soldier/guard without identifying things subduing you... A templar without his robes may not be able to tell he's a templar... Or someone wearing a templar's robes or soldier gear but isn't a soldier.

But I like it anyways. I always have the problem with characters that might end up on the wrong side of the law because of a stupid mistake or something and nearly get killed because I had nosave off or on whichever it was... Don't know. Got it done though and was arrested... Don't want to leave it on to be subdued by anyone or fall or something so it's hard.

What I wanted to see was a command where your character wouldn't fight back if someone hit you. I know that sounds crazy, but there've been several situations where the combat code has been necessary in a situation, but my characters would NEVER have hit back.. and of course, thanks to the code, they did. I'm not sure how easy it'd be to code, because of the way combat is set up - but perhaps some sort of 'passive on' code that is immediately reset to 'passive off' whenever you move from the location you turned it on at (to prevent a gith walking in and whaling on you because you forgot to turn it back off manually).

Just a random thought.

I think this is a really good idea.

I dunno, it seems pretty unpopular according to the poll.

Not fighting back... Yeah, it's a problem. I'd probably ñosave and ooc the other guy to subdue me first. That would be not fighting back codewise.

Doesn't really work Genghiz because after one or two hits, your knocked unconscious.

I think that not fight back thing would be neat if it could be done in combat.

Like while fighting

tell man (In a booming tone) Submit you infidel!

then the man could submit, and stop fighting.
the man might take a few more swings before also submitting.
Thus ending the combat without fleeing.

Would make it neat because a criminal could surrender to a templar or
soldier without looking like he's fleeing.

like emote drops to his knees, setting his weapon aside.
surrender; drop sword

I dont know... I think itd be neat

Off the top of my head, I can think of one major PC from long ago (played by a friend of mine) whose life would've probably been saved by a command like this, but as it was he died a cheap death. I'm for it.

One of the best ideas I've heard of in the last year or so.

Yeah maybe a nofight flag would be fine. Allowing you only to dodge and parry, but not fight back. But... I know... it would surely be abused. And I don't think it would be easy to code. But about being subdued... C'mon... Even human merchant I saw were tough enough to stay awake for a long time. Are you always fighting against badass warriors?
