When rent time expires

I wanted to know general opinion on something.

I lost a character today after renting an apartment that quite clearly had been owned by someone previously, when resting said person logged in, seeing me there knocked my character out, and stole the key preventing any chance of escape.

When someone's rent time expires, -should- that person's log in room be moved to the hallway outside? It s not only unrealistic that said person appears, it's rather somewhat abuseable in terms of code, as someone could rent a place, log out, let the time expire, should someone else take over that room, they can log back in, not only gaining their room back but also whatever gear, coins, and various other things the new owner may have accumulated.

Thoughts?

I just was angry I lost a character in a completely unrealistic way, had the house been broken into or something I could understand, but so much as Log in, *kill* get on wwith life, I found it frustrating.

You should make a complaint with the player request tool, and hopefully have a log of the action. I can't imagine someone logging in and killing you is very acceptable. When ICly, they should've been evicted long ago.

Please GOD!!!! send that in if it happened that way, that isn't acceptable at all and I am sure the imms will be more then happy to deal with said player.

I would be pretty angry as well.  Unfortunately there is no way of proving whether or not the said person knew that their rent had expired.  I don't know... maybe there is.  But if I logged in after being gone a while, and found someone in my room (I probably would not be thinking immediately about whether my rent had expired or not) and I probably would have done the same thing... except I probably would have dragged you out of the building and let you live rather than kill you. (if at all possible and realistic) Or I would have RP'd that I thought I had killed you and just dragged you outside and left you for dead... still giving you a chance to recover.

Yep, best to use the Request tool and leave it to the Staff to investigate.  Right up there with the UHaul half-giant catburglars and the elf that hopped on your mount and rode off into the sunset.  Could have been fine, hard to tell unless you're omniscient.

Regardless of the particular situation, the idea of automagickally moving their start location to the hall (or the newbie start location of that city, or the streets or anything really) is a really good idea.
eeling YB, you think:
    "I can't believe I just said that."

I'd have mistaken you for a burglar if I'd been that player :)

I still think you should send that in, the fact that someone is still stuck inside their apartment after the rent has expired is a bug, things like this shouldn't happen.
A rusty brown kank explodes into little bits.

Someone says, out of character:
"I had to fix something in this zone.. YOU WEREN'T HERE 2 minutes ago :)"

just my two cents..  When I am renting apartments I have a general idea of when it is about to expire.  I think to log in and just attack is lame, that character should have investigated a bit before just taking you down.  A bit of ooc comunication my have been in order.  Expescially if he stole the key from you.  That would have been a sure sign that you had rented the apartment.  I would absolutly report the incident asap.

A burglar with the key?
Any questions, comments, or condemnations to an eternity of fiery torment?

Waving a hammer, the irate, seething crafter says, in rage-accented sirihish :
"Be impressed.  Now!"

Not all burglars pick locks.
