Are Templars Supposed to be "Celibate"?

Started by sarahjc, January 06, 2005, 11:37:12 AM

The Templar doc's are vague and I am sure this is for super sekret reasons, but this is sort of a public thing.. and I was just curious. Nothing is to say that they aren't actively.. well you know.. But are they supposed to be like priests that donate their life to the order or are just too damn busy to procreate? Could a Templar take a wife, do they wed? Can they wed a commoner. I have yet to see a Templar marry or have a publicly known mate, so I was interested.

So many questions..

Yes, templars can take spouses, mate, reproduce, and anything else like it, they wish.

There were, in fact, two PC templars who married each other once.

Good to know, And at least now we can assume that most of the are not using young boys as an outlet.

Thanks Halaster.

Actually, the answer to this question is a little different for northern templars, with respect to commoners.  If you're playing a northern templar, you should probably consult with your staff about this via e-mail.

Sarahjc,

It might be more accurate to say:

At least we can assume that most of them are not using JUST young boys as an outlet, now.
Sitting in your comfort,
You don't believe I'm real,
But you cannot buy protection
from the way that I feel.

Here is where it gets more complicated. If a Templar marries a noble, does the noble leave their estate behind to live with the Templar? I would imagine a Templar wouldn't marry into another family, as they are supposed to leave family ties behind. To a degree. But if say, Lord Templar StickInButt took Lady Fale as a wife, would he get to snag a dowry? Would he get to stick her in his secret layer and chain her up there, or would Fale still want her?

Did any of that make sense? (too much legal drugs)

This would be arranged by whomever was profiting from this arrangement. In the case above these details would be hammered out by House Fale and SIB's superiors.

AND, as previously indicated, the answer is different depending on what templars are being discussed.  Northern, southern,  western, nor-eastern, or South African.  Possibly even what Order or Ministry they are in.

Bottom line is, in Allanak it wouldn't be unheard of for a templar to take a spouse (almost exclusively from the nobility or templarate) or otherwise be "known" as a sexual being (regardless of their specific tastes).  In Tuluk, the public trend at least is that templars show very little of the sexual side of themselves.

Much beyond that I doubt the average commoner would know.

Many nobles and templars, I would imagine, have a wide variety of pleasure slaves available for their enjoyment.  I would think each noble house would have a harem of beautiful young things to sate their sexual appetites, of course the larger houses having far better "facilities" then the lower houses.

Beyond that, in Allanak, commoners can be taken as concubines which are considered extraordinarily high positions within commoner society.  Concubines are accepted parts of Allanaki culture, and would be less likely to cause a scandal than simply taking commoner lovers outside of such an arrangement.  Why?  Because concubines are expected to have no other lovers, besides their noble/templar patron, and that makes it much more tidy and prevents any question about paternity situations as well as questions about diseases being transmitted.

I always got the impression that northern templars were celibate for the most part, sort of like monks are.  They are so busy keeping the peace for the Sun King that they do not concern themselves with pretty much any kind of pleasure.
Quote from: AnaelYou know what I love about the word panic?  In Czech, it's the word for "male virgin".

The bronzed, well-toned templar grips the hem of her robes, lifting them up to reveal a shaven-headed, long-tongued midget.

The bronzed, well-toned templar says, in sirihish: "Everyone has their secrets."
