I wanted to create a poll by inspiring from a post there. Let's see how opinions changed. Discussion may go in "Score" post, and poll can go here.

I voted this, not because I am conservative, just because they are fine enough. If you want to try to spend your time with stats, score, maths, etc. Play D&D.. I'm sure you can run a half-dragon/half-celestial..

If you still want to play ARM and bothering about stats.. I suggest you to ask your friendly templar if he can give his "+5 vorpal keen longsword" or "+4 str gauntlets".

I love Arm, and these are some tiny suggestion. If it is not acceptable, I don't get angry. I just play with the same great enthusiasm. I love this game  :wink:

I generally don't let stats affect the way I play a character at all, but I do agree that something should be done with the way stats are rolled...  Either make it so stats arn't displayed at all, or at least allow for a little more flexability.

Recoding a completely new system where players can place their own stats I think would be cool, but I know the staff is very busy and there are 100 things that would be a better use of time than recoding the stat rolling system...

So for the mean time, I would even be happy with seeing something added to the reroll system like: Your new stats are <blah> <blah> <blah> <blah>, do you want to keep this reroll?

I agree with Matrim. I don't let stats effect me at all. I look at them once.. EVER. I just say. "Heh, that agility sucks. How am I supposed to hunt with that?" then I reroll and hope for something better. Usually get it too.

If it's completely too bad for you to play with, ask a staff member to switch it up. Say "Hey!  the feminine, slender man has an Absolutely Incredible in strength, and a poor in gay! This can't be!"

And the staff'll probably be the nice, cool dudes that they are and switch it around for you.

I think if there should be any change in the stat system, you should be able to prioritize a stat.  Like, a dwarf could prioritise strength and he'd have a greater chance of getting a higher strength.  Or an elementalist could prioritise wisdom, a theif agility, and a porn star stamina.  It'd work out pretty cool.

If we add votes, and make a simple reasoning, 30 players want a modification to scoring system, and 16 players wants to keep the current system against any change.

Inaccurate representation of those who responded.

As of now, 26 votes are in favor of -considering- one of a few possible modifications.  4 want a change, but not what the other 26 are considering, and 17 are opposed to any change.

I think the discussion is more valuable than the poll because of the poll's structure.

Anyway, discussion thread is for what you want (othey score post). I am sure our staff will collect good points from discussions, and they will consider something.

While I'm content with the current system, I wouldn't object to something new...

...as long as it isn't the 'stat ordering' idea. I absolutely hate this idea. I've tried muds with systems like this, and while appropriate in an eq-oriented, RPK game or even your average HnS, I've never stuck around a game with a stat system like this, because you start to get cookie-cutter characters. I dislike the idea of bringing it into Armageddon.

Recovery from Reroll gets my vote in the poll. Two chances for stats. That's one more than you get in real life, so it should be plenty. This way you can reroll if stats are off with your concept, but not be SOL if your reroll is even worse.

Again, I'm fairly happy with the way things are now, but if a change is going to be made, that's my little opinion on it.

It doesn't work like that.  I think you may have mistaken this for a democracy.  A thousand people could make GDB accounts and a vote for a change, and it wouldn't matter.

Two things are needed for any significant change:

1.  The staff in general, and the overlords in particular, need to think it is a good idea.
2.  One staffer must have the ability and inclination to make the change.

GDB polls are just a way for people to amuse themselves while not masturbating.   :twisted:

Although the GDB polls and posts hardly mean anything in official decisions to the immz, they are still significant.

Sure, immz don't have to listen to us, but we are what gives the game life and the immortals mold it out for us.

Without the playerbase, Arm wouldn't be much. Equally if there were no immz.

What I'm getting at is that our posts and polls on this GDB are more important than you think.[/list]

One problem is that I think it is highly likely that a small majority or a large minority of the playerbase does not actively post on the GDB, so you can't be sure that the 'most of us' is true.

I wish stats were invisible, and also dynamic.  So depending on what sort of activities you engage in, they change.
