Title: Reactivating old character & special app questions
Post by: Mystry on February 12, 2022, 11:30:27 AM
Hi, is there a policy or some such surrounding reactivating old characters? I made my second character about 2 years ago (I think, first one immediately got killed by spiders within an hour, lol), and ended up stopping after a short while since my real life schedule went bananas. I never 'stored' them (don't know what that is), and I recall that they got into the Byn and went on one caravan escort and did little else. Do I have do something special to start playing the character again? Or is the character just dead because of how long it's been?

Also, can I get some insight around special applications and if they actually matter? Full disclosure: the only thing I'm really interested in exploring is the magick side of things, but obviously you can't do that without karma. I have plenty of experience with RP from other games, but I'm not too keen on having to wait for over a real life year (or more) to get to the only content that really excites me. Are special apps for characters with magick a 'thing', for lack of a better word? Doesn't have to be some world endingly powerful sorceror.

Don't need to do anything special to play the character again.  Just log in.  You could explain the situation IC with a story with some OOC clarification if needed to the current Byn Sergeant since you'd still be clanned.  Shouldn't be a problem.

As for magick, yeah it requires karma.  You can special app a role for 1 karma above your current level.  So you should be able to play a touched magicker through special app and get some elementalist subguilds through special app once you get the first karma.

There are lots of reasons for the karma restriction on magick, it has a big impact in play.  I'd encourage you to put in a special app for a touched which can take awhile, play your current PC or store and make a new one, and focus on learning how to survive in the game area you want to play the magicker in.  It would suck to get a special app approved, get in game and then die right away.  But it's Arm, that's always a possibility.

Thanks SpyGuy. I don't intend to delete the existing character, and I have a VERY strong habit of only playing one character at a time, so I don't intend to put that app in until my current one gets killed (or if it was dead to begin with).

You only have ONE character at a time and characters never get deleted.

Logged onto my Dwarf after I think 4 years of not playing (Tried to get into the game back then and had some issues) I came back to him and he was like... 100 years old or something and stats were terrible lol. But funny that he was still alive!

When you've got a set concept for a special app I recommend apping just to get the process started.  It takes awhile and if approved you are allowed to continue with your current character.  The only restriction is you need to use it within 6 months of the application.  But if you're having PCs that are active and survive for 6 months you should have no trouble getting that first karma point anyways.
