Title: Alert! Alert!

So, you're sitting in a tent. Resting up. You know, getting some shelter from the sun. You can't keep watch outside of your tent because you're sitting. So you check outside periodically with look. Then you fail to check outside for a minute or two, and poof, your mount and maybe all of your stuff is gone!

Idea: When in a tent, be alerted when something enters the room (unless stealthed) because lets be honest, we'd hear someone trekking through sand and what not, or a big old beetle, inix, w/e approaching.

You can watch outside while sitting just not while resting, for future ref.

Other than that I would be happy with this change if it was fairly non-specific as to what approaches. In the mean time simply sit and watch out instead of rest.

a stake object, to be used with a stake command, that allows you to stake a mount to the ground with varying levels of skill.

this will facilitate protection of mounts by preventing anyone from unhitching the mount without first cutting the rope, which takes a few seconds.

enough seconds for someone paying attention to stand, leave, and scream at you.

or shoot a poison arrow at you from inside.

one or the other.

Oh, I like the mount-hitching idea.

alternatively, when someone goes to steal your mount, you can

get stake

stake elf

You take the bone stake, and slam it into the elf's heart!

The elf collapses, exploding into ashes!

Nah. If you're gonna rest in a tent you should be vulnerable. Tradeoffs.

Honestly, If you arent silly (see traveling with a tent while alone because reasons) Then you shouldnt have this issue. But hey guess what ic it does at least you still have the tent
#tradeoffs #stakeelf

I like it that if you're resting in your tent, someone can come take all your stuff. If you're sitting watching out, then it's a nonissue. It makes sense to me. Resting is really taking a load off, and people already go days and days without sleeping because it's too vulnerable.

even if you're watching out, it takes all of five seconds to run into a room, hitch a mount, stand that mount, and run out of the room. if you mount the mount, it's even less time. n;mount beetle;n n n n n e e e n n e n e n game set match my friend.

Only thing wrong with it is the lack of individual mounts. I can't spot you with MY beetle later on and make you pay.

There's the hunt skill...

It's been a while, but doesn't the mount remain hitched to you even while you are inside a tent?

A delay to hitch might prevent the twink grab-and-steal, but I like to think this is just part of the dangers of going out into desert elf lands.

It'd be cool if things inside a tent could be heard outside, and visa verse.

Or maybe: You notice: blah blah

Or one of those things where it's like your on a balcony, and get the message "Outside of the tent, the blah blah grabs your shit and runs"

No, because staking elves from behind doesn't work. Then they get pissy and suddenly a whole tribe is trying to kill you.

You can currently WATCH OUT while resting, all while the mount you left outside the tent remains hitched. The listen skill will allow you to hear things going on outside.

Tents are already too useful in my opinion.
Title: Re: Alert! Alert!

so the mount is hitched, what good does that do?

i believe you can actually hitch a mount if the mount is hitched from inside a tent, and steal it anyways.
Title: Re: Alert! Alert!
Post by: th3kaiser on August 22, 2016, 06:18:21 PM
That is not correct. If a mount is hitched, you cannot simply hitch it and take it from whomever is inside the tent. I'm on the tents are fine side of this.

Yep.  Although I do think you have to be 'sitting' not 'resting' in order to execute 'watch' related commands.

I just wish there were more low cost tents available!

What good does 'hitching' your mount and sitting/resting inside a tent do, if someone can still walk in, and mount your hitched mount while you're inside? Because that's happened. Multiple times!

I'm pretty sure mounts can be stolen if the person they are hitched to is in a different room (like inside a tent).

If you walk in a direction, yes it unhitched you. If you use the enter command to get to a new room the mount stays hitched. If a mount is hitched it cannot be mounted or hitched by someone else.

Can we have a "bungee cord effect" so that if you unhitch a mount by walking out of the room, the reins snap back and hit a random (N)PC in the room with the mount?

you mind testing this just to err on the side of caution? my experience may have been different.

Don't really need to test this. Moving a direction with it sitting or rested, unhitched. Tent or other similar things? Does not unhitch. It's always been like this.

As someone who uh ... borrowed one, or two, or ... twelve ... mounts from lazy roundies who are sitting in the tent. Assuming that they would not purposefully unhitch a mount when they enter it, I think ... it's possible to hitch and run off with it. It's been done. Numerous times. And then sold back for some good coin on occasion.

I'd say it's more likely they never hitched them in the first place. But hey, feel free to test it.

You can walk into Salarr shops and certain places like gobbulukkudbedu the cleaner and not have it unhitch. At least, I'm fairly sure it doesn't.

Mounts stay hitched if they are 'resting' and you 'enter' another room.

Mounts get unhitched if they are 'standing' and you 'enter' another room.

Resting mounts get unhitched if you walk in a directional, as they cannot follow.

Standing mounts remain hitched if you walk in a directional they cannot fit into. However, this only applies to ONE directional; if you go two rooms away, they become unhitched.

(Note, this applies to fleeing as well. Your mount remains hitched to you if you flee one room away, but unless your next move is back into the room with the mount, it will become unhitched the next time you move).

In all cases, if you are NOT IN THE ROOM with the mount, it does not matter whether they are hitched or not; someone else can hitch the mount and take it.

Been a while since I've stolen a mount, but I believe you can unhitch mount when someone leaves their mount hitched but have entered another room.

I don't think either the need to 'watch out' to see what's happening or the ability to have your mount stolen from you while you're inside a tent are things that need to be fixed.

Makes sense to me.
Title: Re: Alert! Alert!
Post by: manipura on August 23, 2016, 01:52:22 PM
I was under the impression that you can still hitch a mount that is hitched to someone who has entered another room.
It might be the case that your resting mount does indeed stay hitched to you when you enter another room, but someone else can still come in and hitch it.
I'm pretty sure this is the case because of those times I've hitched a resting critter after someone has entered a room without unhitching it.

That being said, I'm not convinced anything actually needs to be changed.

Title: Re: Alert! Alert!
Post by: Akariel on August 23, 2016, 02:23:18 PM
Oh hey, that's interesting. The mount is still hitched if you enter a tent, but if you're not in the room with a mount anyone can override your hitch. Cool.

ha ha. cabbage scores.

choke on this, akariel!

the green, diabolical cabbage-man brutally bludgeons the swarm of rats on the head, wounding them!

so now the question is: working as intended, or code bug?

and does this make "stake mount" more viable?

stake elf? anyone?
