Title: Watching the speaking emotes
Post by: eska on June 19, 2004, 02:11:51 PM
It's known that you can see the emotes or movements in the room when you -watch- the room. But I think there's something missed. People also emote while they are speaking and we don't realize anything about speaking. With a good listener a character can hear what persons in a room talk, but while watching can't get the emotes while they are speaking. Here's an example..

In the room watched..
Scratching the back of his head, the broken nosed man asks in Sirihish:
  "Wanna have some drink, babe?"
Looking down to the ground as she starts drawing circles with her right foot, cheeks blushed, the hot-chick woman says in Sirihish:
  "I don't know Mister. Maybe.."

In the room where the watcher stands..
A man says in north:
  "Wanna have some drink, babe?"
A woman says in north:
  "I don't know Mister. Maybe.."

It's very obvious that the watcher saw both of the speakers motions as they spoke to each other.

Also if the watcher doesn't listen what's spoken, he'll see the room as the persons just standing to each other..

In my opinion he also needs to see the room as following...

To the north, the broken nosed man speaks, scratching the back of his head.
To the north, the hot-chick woman speaks, looking down to the ground as she starts drawing circles with her right foot, cheeks blushed.

Please add your comments about my idea.

I don't think you can see emotes actually. You can see socials but I've never seen an emote, even when I am 99.99% positive that person has emoted. Which I'd like to see change.

Thumbs up, either way.

When listening, you hear what is said, but no emotes connected.
When watching, you see emotes...but not say/talk/etc emotes.

I'm with the originaly poster.  Somewhere in here, we need to see the embedded emotes used with communications when watching.

Emotes are visible when watching.

Nested emotes are not.

I agree.

But it looks difficult to code.

I wouldn't know...but it would be cool.

Personally, I don't think it will be difficult.

Watch:
To the south: Nodding simply, the tall, muscular man says something [to the muscular, tall woman].

Listen:
To the south, a male voice says/asks/exclaims, in Tatlum:
I am Amos.

Both:
To the south: Nodding simply, the tall, muscular man says to the muscular, tall woman, in Tatlum:
I am Amos.

The same can be done for 'Talk'ing, though one should not really be able to hear these things unless they are monsterously good listeners and/or have some magickal aid.
