Why can't you kick in or bash down a door?

Because the immortals haven't gotten around to coding it yet.

If it is coded, there will have to be a way to ensure that warriors don't replace burglars as #1 furniture-stealers.

If it is coded it would likely be limited and mean an instant wanted flag, but that would still cause alot of problems from what I can think of.

Yup, as Mansa said, Wish up, of course they will expect you to have checked things over for feasability first.

If your a human and you look at the door and the description is a thickset bone door, I do not think I would bother.

If your Bobo the burly half-giant and it is a thin agafari door, I don't think it would be standing long...of course expect the staff to keep it realistic for noise and such.

Ya, i hope its never coded.  Just wish up for it.  If its a life or death situation, where someone is trying to PK someone and you need to bash through to door....well...i think the absolute BEST thing to do before killing someone is wishing up to inform the staff online at the time of your intentions.  This will do many things:

1.  It will let you know...the Immortals are watching.  For some players, that means they'll try and stay within the bounds of realism, and their roleplaying will be slightly improved.  The leads to a better outcome for all parties involved.

2.  It will allow the immortals to assist either side, if realistic but uncoded actions are taken.  Such as leaping out a window, smashing down a door, bracing a door so someone can't get in, etc.

3.  It will give the immortals something cool to watch!  They work hard, and deserve a fun show now and then *grins*

I broke down a flimsy door and escaped in a PK situation. Wished up, and it happened nice and quick.

I think doors should be kicked as they can be knocked. I dont think it will be hard to code.
   Of course i am not telling that the door should be opened when kicked dependin on the characters kick skill. It should be; when it is locked it cant be possible to open a door with a kick or a bash, if its not locked, you can open it. (I dont know if it is realistic or not, but surely more realistic then not being able to kick 'em)...

It has nothing to do with realism. It has everything to do with playability.

If anyone with decent kick skill could kick open a door, there would no longer be -any- need for the entire burglar class or the lockpicking skill.

Why should I be a burglar, with piss poor combat skills, when I could just play a dwarven ranger and get the same door opened without having to buy a lockpick? PLUS I'd have the natural brute strength and neato ranger skills that would let me beat the shit out of whoever I find inside.

When you're dealing with a text-based FANTASY game - you have to sometimes throw realism out the window. It just doesn't apply to most situations.

Not to mention that breaking down a door damages the door, the hinges, and the latch.  There should be at least some chance of the door breaking, ie the door object is removed (perhaps replaced with a text string to indicate a broken door) and not comming back with the next reboot.  A skilled locksmith can get in without breaking the lock, but the brute force method tends to splinter things.  Within a few weeks every door in the city would be broken by bored warriors who wanted to see how the new "kick door" code worked.  :P

Right, and since locks are expensive, as well as good doors, Nenyuk would start bribing templars to execute anyone caught breaking into places in such a fashion.   I'd be ALL for the kick door ability if it meant immediate crim-code flagging, and death sentence if your caught.

I can see it now.. 50+ day warrior decides he's going to kick in this door and hide inside from the various uber half-giant soldiers roaming about. However, instead of kicking in the door he kicks to hard and knocks the entire door down with much surpise.


sa (After swearing incoherently for several moments) Mother of Krath! I'm a dead man!

As several soldiers approach quickly down the hallway of the tenement, the uber 50 day warrior quickly ducks inside the cramped chamber, taking a firm grasp of the bone door before trying to put it back in place.

sa (As a broad Allanaki soldier attempts to get into the chamber through forceful means) Go away! No ones home!!
