How do I get better at my skills?
The standard way to get better at your skills is to use them.
ArmageddonMUD has a "get better when failing at using the skill" philosophy. If you attempt to use one of your skills, and you fail at doing it, there is a chance that your skill proficiency will go up. This is not a guaranteed chance for all skills, as sometimes you need to fail a few times before it gets better, but that is the underlying game design.
When you type skills, it shows your skill proficiency in 5 main categories:
Novice -> Apprentice -> Journeyman -> Advanced -> Master
These are a bucket, or a range of skill level. For the most part, we assume that the buckets are 20%, so your skill range might be 1 - 20 for Novice, 21 - 40 for Apprentice, 41 - 60 for Journeyman, 61 to 80 for Advanced, and 81 - 100 for master. Your current proficiency might say "Novice, but it's actually 20/100, and if you fail one more time, it would go to 21/100, and move up to the next bracket.
When your character gets more proficient, they will see a + symbol next to their skill in their skill list. This + symbol will appear for a long while, and eventually disappear (typically within 6 hours). This is a visible indicator that you have become better in that skill.
There is a new command -> Learn. This is designed as a way to learn up to 4 skills a week and make them more proficient without having to actively practice them. This is to help players who do not play as often as others to not feel 'left behind' against other players who have more time to play.

You can also be 'taught' skills from other players, when they use the teach command.

By design, there is a cooldown or a delay in learning multiple times on the same skill. This is to prevent players from mastering each skill very quickly.
