I know this is late but what about 'demihuman'?
See http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Demihuman
It's also the term of choice in the help file on Nrizkt.

This was all re: Beethoven's question in ATS: What to call elves, dwarves, etc. rather than 'humanoid'?

People and things. Sometimes places, if you're making a fat joke.
Demihumans are creatures with human like aspects.
I suppose this includes humans as well.
Things like Halflings, Half giants, Dwarves, Muls.
But not Mantis, because Mantis have no human features. Their arms and legs are all insect features and anything they do is foreign to what demi humans would consider normal, except maybe Halflings but they are just nuts.
Braxat also are not demi-human, atleast if they look like they did in dark Sun. Though they are similar to half giants they are fucking weird looking and have foreign appendages. Such as feet, hands, etc.
I think in most parts of Zalanthas, people would go to great lengths to emphasize how
different other species are than humans. Words that grant them any kind of similarity to real people might be seen as distasteful so I won't expect to see them in common usage.
I'd expect to see more like these:
- The people of this city and the various other co-habitating subhumans
- The mighty tremor harmed many humans and a few other of the inferior bipedals
- So I was walking back home when I found myself surrounded by those sharpeared talking beasts
I guess the separation discrimination would probably work for most every elvish culture the same way. "Sub-elven hordes" and "pathetic roundear almost-people", etc.
There's a reason they aren't called "half-humans".
Edited. I'm going to give this its own thread.
