Title: draw <weapon> es
Post by: Synthesis on February 24, 2016, 10:18:27 AM
> draw dildo es

<secondary hand>  a long, obsidian-studded bone dildo

I'm kind of tired of having to draw something into my primary hand, then change hands ep es.

Ya know... this actually has been an erk of mine. I don't know why I haven't said something sooner.
Ten points to Synthesis!

Point of fact, you can

>draw weapon etwo

but you can't

>draw weapon es

Go figure.

Yeah, I figured the relevant code is probably already 90% in place, it just needs someone to insert the es option.

I honestly only ever discovered this a week ago, (because it's not often you want to 'draw es') and it's absence has been felt ever since then.

Wait, what?  I'm pretty sure I did that like... yesterday.

draw sword es

in fact draws the sword but places it in the primary hand.

Oh nevermind, I was using a bow, which seems to go to the proper (es) hand with just 'draw'.

If you draw es and have a weapon in your primary it goes tos econdary tho dont it?

Yes. but you could also draw longsword bananaphone in that case and it would also go to secondary. The extra wording is just ignored if it's not ep or etwo, I believe, and not in a ( ) to be processed as an emote.

Is it not?
Because draw banana
And then doing draw banana gives you the message "SOMETHING IS IN YOUR PRIMARY HAND!"
But draw banana es with a banana already equiped throws it in my secondary hand.

Huh. That hasn't been my experience. Just did:

<hung from belt>         a slim wooden training club
<hung from belt>         a short, wooden sparring spear

>
draw club
You draw a slim wooden training club.
>
draw spear
You draw a short, wooden sparring spear.
>
eq
<primary hand>           a slim wooden training club
<secondary hand>         a short, wooden sparring spear

And further:

sheathe spear
You sheathe a short, wooden sparring spear.
>
draw spear bananas
You draw a short, wooden sparring spear.
>
sheathe spear
You sheathe a short, wooden sparring spear.
>
draw spear ep
You draw a short, wooden sparring spear.

I would have bet a million dollars I was right.
I just tried it and you are right.
Weird..

I like the proposed idea.

Another quirk: If the item is in your primary hand and nothing is in your secondary hand, you can just change hands, no need to ep es.  If the item is in your secondary hand, you have to specify change hands es ep.

Great suggestion - this is a really useful thing to have!

I can count the amount of times I have wanted to draw es on no hands. But always happy for more simple and practical code like this.

Is there also a command to release a two-handed hold on a weapon? Like - draw sword two (you don't have to use etwo, by the way) -> only way I know of to get it into one hand is to rtwo then ep or sheath and redraw.

If you're a SOI vet like me, you've aliased this to 'grip'.

I keep typing grip, yeah. But I was an Arm vet pre SoI adventures ;)

Yes. Also, sheath should sheath your secondary weapon FIRST.

I never used combat in SOI but I updated my alias to grip because it's easier to type and remember than 'change hands' or any shorthand thereof ;)
