Title: Improvements to score listing
Post by: CodeMaster on June 17, 2014, 01:48:41 PM
As I was reading through the newbie walkthrough on the website, I was reminded how baffling the 'score' listing can be to a newbie (e.g., what does 'Code Generated Long Description' mean to a new player?).

Then I thought, it might also be cleaned up and reorganized to make some key information more accessible at a glance, possibly even for more experienced players.

Old 'score' (per website walkthrough):

>score
You are Malik
Keywords: tall muscular man
Sdesc: the tall, muscular man
Objective:
Long Description:
Code Generated Long Description.
You are 25 years, 0 months, and 5 days old,
which by your race and appearance is adult.
You are 70 inches tall, and weigh 7 ten-stone.
Your strength is average, your agility is average,
your wisdom is average, and your endurance is average.
You are neither hungry nor thirsty.
Your health is 100(100), you have 120(120) stamina, and 100(100) stun.
[Does mana show up for mages?  Other stuff?]

You have been playing for 0 days and 0 hours.
You are standing.
You are currently speaking sirihish with a northern accent.

Proposed 'score':

>score
You are Malik, the tall, muscular man.
Keywords: (malik, tall, muscular, man)
You have been playing Malik for 0 days and 0 hours.
Long Description: Default long description.
Objective: None yet (see: 'help objective').

You are 25 years, 0 months, and 5 days old,
which by your race and appearance is adult.
You are 70 inches tall, and weigh 7 ten-stone.
Your strength is average, your agility is average,
your wisdom is average, and your endurance is average.

You are standing.
You are speaking sirihish with a northern accent.
You are neither hungry nor thirsty.
You have 100(100) health, 100(100) stun, and 120(120) stamina,
  and 1000(1000) mana.

Indentations are consistently two spaces wide; a blank objective is replaced with a helpful (to newbies) pointer; coded bodily attributes and some in-the-moment variables (position, language, hunger, wellbeing) are visually separated; key points of information are at the top or bottom of the paragraphs for easier reading.

Thoughts?  How would yours look?

I think that's an adequate size for this.

Yes. Please. Can you be on staff and put this in now please?

It is much more streamlined and easier to read.

Absolutely love it - with one addition.

Instead of it telling you that you are using the default long description, it should tell you what your long description is at any moment, ie: "The tall, muscular man is sitting at a scarred bar." or "The tall, muscular man is standing here."
