This is a great idea. A good work around in the meantime though, is putting your encumbrance in your prompt.

Except - your load is only manageable because you just picked the breastplate up.
Once you *wear* your breastplate, or put it in a backpack you're wearing, your load will now be less (by varying degrees).
Also, if you pick up a shield, and it makes your load completely manageable, but it's sized too big for you, you still won't be able to use it.
'Tis true. Not all inventory/equipment areas are equally encumbrant. There are a lot of commands that can change your encumbrance, and I would not want a message about it attached to all of them.
It might be useful, however, to have an option for a message notifying you whenever your cross the threshold of "manageable" and coded weight penalties.
I don't see any negatives.
It keeps me from putting forth the extra effort of typing "stat", I guess. *shrug*
I will promote it.
What about a toggleable command set by users that turns it on/off at the level you set it at.
I.E. set weight easily managable
then when your over that weight allowance it tells you your straining to much or something....
