Go, go, go!
We are #8 on top mud sites.
Just a friendly reminder: you really have all morning (til 12 pm server time) to get your first vote in for TMS. You have all day (until midnight) to get your first vote in for TMC. Just be sure you get that first vote in by noon!
Gogogogogogogogogogogo TMC!
And TMS too.
Currently tied for 4th on TMS, 6 behind #3, 27 behind #2.
We ended last month at just over 2000 votes. If we do 100 votes per day (2 from each person, so 50 people voting twice per day), we will have 3100 votes this month. We will take #2 (handily).

Don't forget about TMC, guys. A lot of our fresh boots are coming from there.
We're only 4 away from our "50" for the morning 12 hours. Get dem votes in before noon on TMS! Get in your daily vote before midnight on TMC!

We're 7 shy of our daily goal of 100. Let's go ahead and hit it and go over! Any amount over means we're closer to our monthly goal!
We are 14 shy of our midday goal of 150. Coincidentally, we are 10 shy of tying 2nd place.
Remember to vote!

I went to vote to ensure that we stayed in first place, only I found that we were bumped to second place already.
Sad news.

We're #1 by a slim margin.
The top ten list on TMC updates once per day (I think). The "all rankings" list is updated almost instantly from what I have seen.
My vote just put us back at 2 on TMS
feels good man
Keep it up! We are ahead by a slim margin and about 19 short of 200!
Only 1 behind Aardwolf on TMC.
Guys! We are in the #2 spot on TMS and the #1 spot on TMC! Let's stay there FOR THE REST OF TIME!
These reminders to vote are really helpful. Voted at home, I'll vote again on TMS when I get to work, then vote AGAIN when I get home. Thanks, guys!
Dropped to #2 on TMC. >:(
We're 10 short of the morning goal of 50 before noon (in about 10 minutes). While that goal is less important over the grand scheme of things, that goal means we will cement our lead over #3 over the next few days, so please vote on TMS this morning if you have not already!
Current status:
240 votes on TMS with a rank of #2, 29 higher than #3
80 votes on TMC with a rank of #2, 28 higher than #3 (as of midnight)
--actual rank as of now on TMC is 92 votes on TMC with a rank of #1, 5 higher than #2

Jee, I feel silly having not voted in forever. But have corrected such errors. Though when I did and reviewed the Arm page on TMC I noticed...

Which is what I use to connect. Just thought I'd make mention of it.
We're in the #2 spot on TMS by 35 votes. Keep voting everyone, so we can maintain our lead.
We're back in the #1 spot on TMC, but only by 10 votes. Keep voting!

Not to put a damper on voting or anything but we did maintain 200 votes over the first two days of voting, meaning 100 votes per day. In the next 17 days we have managed 800 votes, or about 47 votes per day...so about half of what we were doing the first two days. Past months have seen numbers higher than 2000 by the end of the month.
I was only halfway joking that it's vacation doing it (the joking part was that they should feel bad--enjoy vacation you scoundrels!). I think that makes sense when the numbers are compared across all voting on TMS. The #2, #3, #4, and #5 spots are all within a 150 vote margin. Typically that is not the case, and typically by this time of the month, votes are at higher numbers. So either everyone is voting less across all games (possible, it's summer) or everyone is simply less concerned about voting (possible, it's summer) or constantly working to maintain the top spot on TMS over the course of 5 months is wearing on us (probable, because it is a little annoying to remember to do it).
I can't possibly enjoy my vacation now. You've spoiled it. Spoiled it!

Well now that I finally got my voting ability back for mudconnect, I vote - and see a banner ad for a jesus website. Not a christian mud site - just an evangelical christian site.
So I'm poking around topmudsites, and see a recent thread referring to that banner ad on mudconnect, and a thread about it in the mudconnect forum. So I take a look at that thread - turns out it belongs to the site owner, who feels it appropriate to place a banner ad trying to push his christianity on everyone else. It's not even a customer - he put it there himself because he wanted to send the message that jesus died for us all.
Since I'm not christian, and have no interest in becoming christian, and don't think it necessary for a mud-related website to insist that jesus died for me - I won't be voting on mudconnect anymore. I find his refusal to remove the banner that -he- put on his own, for free (since he's the site owner) to be offensive. I don't support "christian" websites, and I won't support mudconnector as long as it plasters "Jesus died for us all" on my browser when I click to it.
Now I'm tempted to make a new account and say that jesusdiedforallus.com sent me to Armageddon.
Just read it as JesusDiedforOrallus.com
Maybe Orallus was the site owner's favorite character on Arm or something.

I had been locked out of it for two months, and had been trying to "vote" every single day. Pardon me if I don't want to patronize a website run by a guy who wants to stuff jesus down my throat.
At least I tried. Consider all the players of this game who haven't ever even bothered to click the vote link once. I'm not hearing your snark against them. And I have been clicking that vote link for YEARS - every single day, without fail, even when I'm on vacation and can't actually play. Consider all the people who forget to vote, who don't vote every day.

Hey, I agree. It's cheesy. I don't want anyone trying to sell their religion to me, either. When I saw it, I said to myself, "huh, weird, probably a link to a game site" and then I didn't click on it because I don't click on ads (generally a good practice). When I saw your rant about it, I checked, and I saw that it was a single ad that popped up every now and then (really not that often, about as often as the paid ads there). I then found a solution to your problem that would not take support away from our game in a prominent area of MUD rankings, should you wish to pursue it:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/search/adblock%20plus?hl=en-US
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/
http://safariadblock.com/
https://adblockplus.org/en/internet-explorer
One of these should work for you.
There's obviously a lot of people out there who agree that this is heavy-handed and cheesy and a little creepy. I'm one of them. I also have adblock plus installed so I can just not see it and put it out of my mind. If that's not something you want to do and instead wish to not even go to a website because you disagree with its advertising, cool. The way you have been explaining it, you've been banned from there anyway and haven't been able to vote (though I still think it was your computer since it got fixed by a power surge + windows update--bans aren't circumvented by lightning and the windows OS)...so I'm not sure it's really a big deal. If you don't want to vote because of an ad you don't like, good luck.

Er, no. The way I've been explaining it, is that there was an IP-block on a range of IP addresses, and my IP address falls within that range. *I* was not banned, I've received no violations, no warnings, no nothing, and I used to be a frequent and regular contributor until this started happening. It's happened over the course of two different computers, and Icculus has fixed it for me twice already in the past two years but it often takes him a couple of months to respond to my requests (since I have to e-mail him from my own personal e-mail, and not from my mudconnect account, because - well - I can't access it when my IP block is locked out). It doesn't happen when I'm not home (using someone else's computer or my tablet when I'm on vacation). I (meaning me, not my IP address) have never been locked out or banned from Mudconnector or Topmudsites, and I've been a semi-regular contributor to both since before I ever started playing Armageddon. On the other hand, there are only a very rare few other than myself, that I've -ever- seen participating in either website's forums. I believe in give and take. I don't see many of you giving back to the sites that have given you first place.
I don't normally notice ads on other websites that I visit. But with a mud website, to see the one and only non-mud advertisement, knowing that it was put there by the owner, in rotation instead of a potentially paying customer, for the express purpose of pushing his religious agenda - well call it a boycott. Yes, I love Armageddon. That's why I have been voting for it on two different voting sites and promoting it for years.
And no, I won't be downloading an ad blocker just to block a single offensive ad.
Ah, ok. Well then he must have gone and fixed your ban issue for you. I don't think the windows update or the power surge had anything to do with it if that was the case.
Meanwhile, vote!
(http://www.topmudsites.com/images/vote_mud.gif) (http://www.topmudsites.com/vote-sanvean.html)(http://www.mudconnect.com/images/tmcvote1.gif) (http://www.mudconnect.com/cgi-bin/vote_rank.cgi?mud=Armageddon)
You know how I vote on topmudsites - without ever having to be reminded to vote:
I read (and contribute to) the Topmudsites forum. But - I don't have it bookmarked, and I don't google search it. I use Armageddon's voting link instead. That is -how- I get to the forums there. So I click that voting button several times every day. It only counts twice a day, but it causes no problems at all to use it as your "method" of getting to that website.
Reviews have been disabled there, and they have some rules of ettiquette regarding promoting a mud on their forums (only once every couple of weeks to do an actual promotion post or bump an inactive existing promotion thread - but it's totally allowed to continue an active discussion about a mud, or to include your mud in a recommendation if someone's looking for one to play).
It might be interesting, in fact, to find out if those members who come to play Arm, as a result of our presence on topmudsites, are doing so because we're in the top ranks, or because they've read about us in the forums. Or - if maybe it's because of both (they see us in the rankings, then check the forums to see if anyone has anything interesting to say about us).
Perhaps if more of us were participating in their forums, more people would be aware of the nature of Armageddon, and not only consider what a very very scant few players have to say about it. It's not that we need everyone to suddenly barrage their forum extolling the virtues of Armageddon - that'd not only be silly, but it'd probably drive some would-be players far away from the Arm-Evangelists :)
There are a lot of lively discussions there, and some pretty awesome active members. It'd be nice to see a couple more Armers chime in on all different kinds of topics. It'd also make us more "visible" to mudders, who don't only look at mud rankings - they also check out the community.
Maybe we should post an announcement about the HRPT over on the forums of those websites, if we haven't done so already.

It's already posted there, but it just recently bounced off the recent discussions list.
Right under Newest Muds Added, is the Recent Forum Discussions section. Or you could just go to the main forum link and browse through. But the Arm HRPT thread is in the Mud Promotions subdirectory and a few of you have posted in it.
I don't think anyone's posted in mudconnector's forum yet, or at least I didn't see anything about Arm when I checked a few days ago.

See now, that would've been cool. Even though I'm not Christian, there are lots of Christians would might really enjoy playing a religious-based mud. Maybe play one of the Pharisees or a temple priest collecting taxes from the poor or something, or a Crusader going on a druid hunt along the british isles.

Voted. How in the world did we drop to fifth place on TMS. Come on people VOTE.
Let he who is without sin kick the first ass!
No big deal, guys. We'll destroy it next month.
Right now we're at about 51 votes per day on average. That can be maintained by 25 people voting twice per day. We could be at 2nd place presently (and comfortably, and probably with a wider margin) if we'd had 32 people voting twice per day (1600 votes). If we want 2000 votes per month (which is attainable and we've done it before for 4 months, and it seems to be a good threshold), we need...oh. 32 people voting twice per day. That's just 7 more people remembering to vote each day twice per day!
So let's get together and plan to kick ass at midnight on July 31/August 1. And til then, continue to vote!
Nyr,
Could you please explain when all you can vote twice a day. I've tried voting back to back but the numbers never increase on TMS. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or what. Maybe I have to wait a little while before voting again. And how do I know when my vote has counted or not it doesn't say one way or the other. TMC is pretty specific it says hey you've voted already. I guess an indicator on when someone can vote would be a good thing to know.
Thank You
It's once every twelve hour period, from what I've seen.
If you vote at midnight, you can vote again at noon exactly 12 hours later. If you vote at noon, you can vote again at midnight exactly 12 hours later. I usually don't do it exactly to the second or even to the minute. Except for the first few days of voting, I usually just stick to a schedule of "vote when I get to the office" and "vote at the same time back at home."
With TMS, it doesn't matter how many times you click the vote link - it will only count toward an actual vote once every 12 hours. You *can* click on it countless times daily, no one will be penalized for it, so you have no worries on that end. It just won't count, except once every 12 hours.
So if you vote at 8PM tonight, then the next vote you click that counts, will occur at or after 8:01AM. If you don't vote until 8:05AM, then the next vote you click that counts, will occur at or after 8:06PM.
The 12-hour timer begins on the last vote that counted, whenever that happened to be, and regardless of how many times you clicked the vote link between then and now.
I do much the same as Nyr, which probably means when we do vote a few minutes early, we effectively lose that vote. I don't think , in the long run, you can do much about that. It's like collecting pay, you have to run hard to keep up with your entitlement. That's the way I see it anyway.

Just click the voting link after you're finished reading the GDB, EACH time you're reading the GDB. Most people read it several times every day; it's something you read while you're brushing your teeth or having your morning cup of coffee before work/school.
You read it when you get home from school/work, around the same time that you check your e-mail.
You read it before you log on to Arm in the evening.
You read it when there's a lul in your RP, while you're Arming.
You read it after you log out for the night, before bed.
That's a minimum of 5 opportunities to click that voting link, and at least one of them will count. It's likely that 2 of them will count, but it's guaranteed that one of them will, at the very least.
If you use your smartphone or tablet or laptop and check the GDB on your lunch hour, morning break, between classes, on the train ride to work, on the school bus - those are more opportunities to click the voting link. More chances that 2 of your clicks, per day, will count.
TMC only allows one vote a day, but with TMS you can vote every twelve hours....
Does anyone know if you can vote twice a day on different devices and have it count each time? Can I vote twice on my laptop and my phone and my iPad and get six votes counted for the day?

That would be considered cheating, and totally contrary to the spirit of the vote. It devalues your vote, and by doing so, devalues the game. Please don't do that.

Nope. It's apparently a 2-vote per IP address system.

And they've already specified in their rules that it's supposed to be 2 votes per person per day, regardless of how many IP addresses he has access to. So you *can* (meaning, it is mechanically possible) to vote twice at home, get your smart phone to starbucks and vote twice from there, and log on at the library computer and vote twice from there.
But again - that is considered cheating, and it is against their rules, and devalues the vote and whichever game those cheating players are voting for.
Now is the time to vote!
Now is also the time to vote!
Now is also also the time to vote...
The end of the month is approaching, too. Be sure to vote every day in August!
So yeah, just wanna say 170 players at peak at an HRPT is 340 votes per day.
We'd have 10540 votes for a 31-day month if all of those wonderful players from yesterday voted twice per day. By comparison, at current levels, Aardwolf won't break 4000 for the month. I'm not saying we should take on #1 on TMS...I'm just saying we don't need to be as intimidated by other games.
Three more days until voting reset. Let's rest up a bit and relax long enough to show an eruption of support for Armageddon next month!
Oh, sorry. Too soon, gypsies?
Lizzie, you may be interested in learning that TMC is no longer going to be run by that same guy.

His handle is Icculus. I've returned to look at the threads (Yes, I voted in order to link to the site!), and it looks like I wasn't the only one who took offense at the inclusion of a jesus website put there by Andy (Icculus). Unfortunately, instead of simply offering their opinion, appealing to him to retract the ad, and then either staying or leaving - some of them went on a rage-fest. And Andy, being Andy, raged back until it got to the point where he shut down the forum entirely. I didn't participate at all in the fight. And while some of the members were outrageous in their trolldom, there were many who attempted to appeal to Iccy's sense of fairness and "Good Christian" sense but he chose his insistence of putting that ad there (where it hadn't been EVER...so this was a new thing for him), over the vast majority of the community. And now, he's pulling out completely. The whole thing could've been solved if he had simply withdrawn that advertisement for a religious website, which really didn't belong on Mudconnector in the first place - and he knew it.
It's still run by him for now - but the community forum has been set to read-only. And so - the "community" of Topmudsites has been intentionally closed down until further notice.
Shame on the few who made demands as if Iccy owed them a thing - and shame on Iccy for letting an ad that he never considered putting up in all the years he's owned the site, cause him to pick it over the community he has devoted years to.
I believe a Ron Burgundy "well, that escalated quickly" pic would suit the whole jesusblablah situation well.
