Title: Flavor Text for Food/Drink
Post by: Khommie on May 29, 2013, 09:24:07 PM
I've noticed that when one eats, one does not really know what the flavor of the food is.  Is it sweet, sour, bitter?

Well, I suggest that when eating, a small line pops up describing the taste of the food.  It could be small.

*eats tandu sausage*

The sausage's juices flood your mouth with a sudden warm feeling.  It tastes very salty with a hint of spiciness.

Often just looking said foot will tell you this.

And with many (however not all) food/drink items, a taste/sip will tell you the rest.

And sometimes, some food or drink items DO give you that sort of thing. Spices numbing your mouth, tingling tongue, etc.

Try the 'taste' command.

Try the 'taste' command.

It tastes like regular meat. duh.

I would love it if staff did a submissions thing to help liven up these very bland tastes.

There are seasonings in game that you can buy that will enhance (or ruin) the flavor of your food.

That's what I was suggesting.  More detailed tastes.

If you come across an item that doesn't have a taste message or...could be better. You could always idea it?

I think that is the Zalanthan equivalent to "Tastes like chicken".

I was going to say the same tbing...tastes like meat is the flavor text...nothing special about it...bland meat with no spices or anything.

There are many food/drink items in game with long complex taste messages.

just like rl some foods are simple, bland...some are not...irl we tend to spice up the bland...same can be done ig.

It would be nice to have unique messages for the more common food items, though. Even if it were just something short and basic, for example: the jerky is tough, chewy, and has a mild smoky flavor. While the it tastes like ordinary meat message can be humorously interpreted as the Zalanthan tastes like chicken, it also reads like a default, placeholder message and thus looks a bit unfinished.

Just wait until you taste a baby in game. (Which has happened at least once in the past resulting in a partially eaten baby)

Yes, I get that for meat, but what about fruit "Tasting like normal fruit" or whatever the message is?

You can always use the idea command to suggest a new taste message for a given food object.  Every now and then an enterprising staffer gets around to reviewing those submissions.

It's clearly a code generated default flavor, because a generic flavor message is better than none at all. If an object is coded as meat, it automatically gets assigned the default meat message. Likewise for fruit. Or maybe the message is dynamically generated based on what the object is made of. Regardless, you're getting it because nobody defined a unique flavor for the object in question.

Suddenly, you know exactly how Muk's balls actually taste.

It tastes like the Highlord took a sorcerer crap in your mouth. You feel defiled. -10hp

You know how Mom used to cook those amazing scrab cakes? Yeah, this isn't it, it's more like when Dad would roast his boots because he was drunk and beat you 'til you'd eat it, then told you you should be grateful.

This probably isn't erdlu...
