Title: Why so nice?
Post by: Mendel on May 26, 2013, 07:56:54 PM
I just started a new character after taking a long break and not a single person has been mean to me in any way.  What gives?

You're probably in Tuluk.

If we're raising the idea of a bit more player cruelty and backstabbing I'm all for it.

Is it too much to ask for a random stranger to mug me and leave me naked in the desert?  Does that even happen anymore?

All the time. If you live. Plenty of mean bastards out there. Plenty of us being nice to you to your face, and thinking about your boots too.

The scrawny, underdeveloped weakling says, in vulnerable-accented sirihish "Boyo, these boots sure are COMFY!  I'd be real sour if anything ever happened to them.  Anyhow, thanks for the free drink, Mister!"

You haven't been around long enough to piss anyone off.

Probably because a lot of people don't want to die yet.

You're probably in Tuluk.

But they're thinking about how much they hate you and how they will exploit you.

You're likely in Tuluk, and everyone is planning a years-long convoluted scheme to relieve you of your boots. It is a conspiracy so vast, even the Sun King himself is a part of it.

Good Lord, if the Sun King wants my boots I'll hand them over with gift wrap. No need to plot over it. ;)

This is Tuluk, he's not going to ask for them. He's going to unnecessarily plot and scheme until they're in his possession.

You haven't been around long enough to piss anyone off.

I've noticed a trend toward long-lived characters who form a social backbone of what's happening.

[or: I'm finally living long enough to notice this?]

They know that most people who piss them off will sort themselves out in a RL year. So, they're not gonna kill you for your boots. They're gonna patrol the bottom of the shield wall and collect Byn gear when it piles up.  ;D

>junk boots
>buy sandals
>wear sandals

The Sun-King, seated in His Ivory Awesomesauce throne far away, says to himself, in all-knowing accented sirihish, "...Well shit."

+1

Sometimes it's fun to help them down.

If you can't find trouble then you're not looking hard enough.
