Alright, listen up, you Armageddonites!
Voting for the month of March has been great. You guys have helped represent this game quite well to the rest of the world that looks for MUDs. Here's what you did. Mathematical approach to voting: commence!
TMS for March2037 votes over almost 31 days, resulting in almost 900 click-throughs solely because of our #2 position. We've maintained (lately) about a 120 to 140 vote lead over #3. This is not really that safe of a buffer, and I'll show you why.
2037 votes / 30.65 days = about 66 votes per day (or 33 people voting twice per day)
# 3 has 1885 votes over almost 31 days.
1885 / 30.65 days = about 61 votes per day (or about 30 people voting twice per day)
We're only
that far ahead. #2 is our position, and we can keep it provided we maintain that commanding lead we took last month over the first few days of voting (we were beating a game that has 400+ players logged in at pretty much any given off-peak time until they realized we were beating them). We aren't competing for #1 on TMS (we'd need double the votes to challenge). We're competing for #2, and it matters a great deal to getting new players.
See this thread (http://www.zalanthas.org/gdb/index.php/topic,45208.msg742593.html#msg742593) for the broken down statistics. From that page (updated slightly to include new players/stuff since then):
QuoteMarch 1 - March 31 (3:43 PM Server Time)
235 new accounts, an increase of 91.1% over the last month
71 players found us from TMS, an increase of 373.3% over the last month
38 players found us from TMC, an increase of 22.6% over the last month
2037 votes over 30.65 days on TMS, average of (approximately) 66 votes per day, with more at the outset to maintain a lead
(discounting the 3 extra days we get this month, that'd still put us at a 46.9% increase in voting over the last month)
898 clickthroughs on TMS, a traffic increase of 142.7% over the last month
TMC for MarchThis is where things get a little more interesting. So far we are at 895 votes for the month of March. #1 is not 895 votes away--it is a bit more than 100 votes away. Are we in range to challenge that?
#2 (Us): 895 votes / 30.65 days = 29 votes per day.
#1: 1008 votes / 30.65 days = almost 33 votes per day.
We need five more people to get TMC accounts that do NOT already have one, and then those five people need to vote every day. We can beat #1's numbers assuming next month is similar with just five more people. Why is this important? Well, it'd double our homepage clicks (assuming that is the same next month) simply by having the #1 position, and usually that correlates to higher voting.
Let's do this!
So we need five more people that don't have TMC accounts to post here that they're going to do that this month--or five people that already have TMC accounts to consistently vote this month. What's it gonna be?
I'm locked out again and tired of e-mailing their admin to release the IP-range block. It'll unstick itself again eventually. I can still access their website, and I can even type in the URL on my browser and log in normally. But clicking the link from arm.org or zalanthas.org returns an access restricted message.
I will vote only with my Parent's Guidance.
Voting reset! Go, go, go!
i went
Voting is your patriotic duty. I have done mine.
Vote like a Chicagoan! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vote_early_and_vote_often)
I'll make a TMC account but I'll probably forget to vote every once in a while.
I voted for the Sandlord, just another vote for Tek, I know
In second with 17 to third place's 3, and voting's only been reset for 43 minutes. Nice. Keep owning, bitches!

I just did this yesterday. Made an account.
And so you know I HATE making accounts.
That sentiment is shared by many (including me), but consider the fact that very sentiment is why a certain powerhouse of a MUD (as far as voting is concerned--listed as #1 consistently on TMS) is not #1 on TMC.
If we can get enough of our players behind Armageddon on TMC votes, we will not only maintain #2 on TMC, we will take #1 and keep it.

yeah, I noticed how much the #2 spots have helped recently. so my love of Arm overcame my hate for registering for things.
Done it! Have finally re entered TMC where it all began.

I voted in three states today, huzzah
Made a TMC account and voted today.. Here's to the start of a new daily at-work habit!
I have a TMC account.
30 votes from #1 on one of them!
I think I have a TMC account, if not, I'll make one. Go Armageddon! *raises fist*
Note that out of nowhere Achea has made a big come back, need to keep voting to keep them down!
As promised, once everything came out as a joke, I voted. But I did one better, I went and made a TMC account so I could kick ass for Arms on there, too.

You have my sword.
By sword what I really mean is vote. It was a LOTR reference which I for one, thought was witty given the context. HUAEHUAEUAHEHUAEUH.
Voted, have you?
3 more to pass them!
#1 by 6, keep voting to hold it!
I'm kind of surprised. I wonder where Achaea came from with actually voting this time around.
Anyway, #1! Yeah!
Made my TMC account and voted everywhere!
Holy shit. #1.
This. Is. Beautiful.
It makes my twisted little heart happy to see this MUD at the #1 spot.
Were were ahead of Aardwolf 20 votes a few hours, and now we're behind 20? :(
So, I finally decided to see what makes this Aardwolf such hot shit and, well... I wanted to fucking gouge my eyes out, by the time I finished.
No roleplay, that I could find. It's basically all just a big chat room, with MUD+RPG qualities, and many, many chat channels.
I thought ARM was hard when I first started - Fuck Aardwolf, in that regards. I sat through roughly two and a half - almost three hours, probably, worth of just talking to their tutorial NPC's and I still barely had any idea of what in the actual fuck I was doing.
Yeah... I've got some basic MUD experience under my belt but, shit, walking into that MUD was overwhelming. I don't have any idea how they have any semblance of player retention.
About the only thing I liked about it was the fact that their help files are capable of being a bit specific by going one step beyond our own help file system. Whereas, you can type 'help <subject>' here and there - Aardwolf goes a step further by including a 'search for content' in their help files by typing 'help search <keyword>' and it'll pull up a list of all help files connected to that keyword.
Example:
You find a grey, sap-filled leaf.
>Help Search Sap
Search results for 'sap' listed
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Bimbal - Plantlife
>Help Bimbal
Help Bimbal
This small plant has thick, bulbous leaves, a dark grayish-green in color, sprouting in irregular leaves. The leaves are thick and chunky, each one filled with precious moisture, the waxy surface preventing evaporation. Sap has healing properties, sometimes used in bandagemaking.
That'd be pretty fucking awesome, but other than that, I couldn't really find many redeemable qualities about Aardwolf.
Edited to add:
Not completely untrue - As far as unable to find other redeemable qualities. I also liked their idea of a marketplace/auction house. If we could Zalanthas that idea, it'd be a pretty wicked addition.

Check out the pretty fucking awesome goodness of our new website, then. You can do exactly that! :)
Some of you may look at the voting for TMS and think, "Wow. Where did these other games come from? That wasn't the same as last month!" Well, we came out of nowhere (compared to everyone else) in the month of March, from a shaky #5 in February to a steady #2. We did the math from February and determined that based on those voting numbers, "hell, we could do better than #1 just based on the people logged in!" The first day (indeed, the first week) of voting is pivotal--you can create a lead that is difficult to overcome in later weeks.
Some of you may also look at our own voting for TMS for just over a day and think, "Wow...over two hundred votes? This is madness!"

It's probably not reasonable to expect us to beat a game that has 300+ players online when we have 13 players online. As soon as their admins push a "ZOMG somehow we aren't #1, please vote" across a global OOC channel or whatever they have, it's game over.

We're beating Achae. That's my counter to that good sir.
edit: And just to clarify. I never used to vote until recently when I saw just how important it was to the game (all the new people I keep seeing and helping have to be coming from somewhere!) So now I shall vote daily.
Also, if you look at MudStats, we are trending well so far in the last month or so. Time will tell what this means overall, but I am very encouraged at the push for voting and getting new players in the door!

It's an average, though I would be curious for staff to have a look at how and how often MudStats polls the status. Maybe there is a way to get more data points to get better representation of our numbers.

And...
1. Dark and Shattered Lands (DSL) 1085 votes (61T/330H)
2. Armageddon 1016 votes (19T/158H)
Soooo close to #1
I take it back. Making a new voting poll thread for the month not only seems to be a great motivator but it's hilarious.
I voted.... like a baws.
I don't usually read player announcements much so I'm late to the vote train, but seeing last month's success is really motivating, and I've been hitting those vote buttons hard for April.
Hey guys, better step it up! Achaea's only 30 votes behind! We don't want to lose our second place status, do we?
I vote on each site daily. i want that number 1 spot we are only 50 from.
Only thirty two votes behind for first place on TMC!
I find the list of top ten muds on TMC to be awkwardly formatted. My eye isn't naturally drawn to move to the right when looking at a list, it naturally moves down.
I bet that odd-numbered muds on that list have a better chance of being clicked on, so let's get that #1 spot!
I love this, this is like a beautiful act of piracy.
The #1 mud is going at 4 knots per hour while we're slowly catching up to it at a steady 6 knots per hours.
It'll take a while, but if the wind keeps up we'll end up boarding that #1 ship and send it sinking with the rest of the muds we've overtaken in the past.
YARR!!
THARR BE N00BIES TO PLUNDER APLENTY!
On TMC we are only 25 votes from the top.
Just sayin'
So far we're at 79 new accounts. 14 from TMS, 13 from TMC.
We're 8 TMC votes behind #1 right now, btw.
Two days ago we were 50 votes out of first place on TMC, now we're 16 votes from taking it. So, let's take it.

No matter what don't, I repeat, DO NOT forget to vote. Bad men from Asia will steal your gold, nefarious hackers will grab your credit card info, doppelgangers will steal your identity and buy fetish porn with it.
Your cat will die, your wife your leave you and your house will catch on fire. Later you will find your wife set fire to your house so she could get the insurance money and elope with your undead cat.
Bad things WILL happen, it's not a matter of if, but when, and you better not take the risk, I think. Don't test the curse of forgetting to vote. You will regret it.

This is pretty darn awesome!
I started back in late August 2012 and came from DSL (the mud in second place). I've played a handful of characters here already and feel like I've found a new home and it's all because of TMC. Super glad to see people putting in an effort to represent such a good place to play and I'll continue to do the same to show my support.

I can't wait to have >100 players at peak.
We are on the way.
I AM VERY OPTIMISTIC.
Yes...yes...! Soon we will have enough players that Nenyuk, Tor and Lyksae will be re-opened.
We are THREE votes away from leading Achaea by two hundred votes. Two hunnerd!
We lead Aardwolf by 350 votes on TMC. Interesting, huh?
Huh. Actually it is.
When I see the numbers, I worry about a possible fall-off of interest in MUDs. Then I think, "Hey, that's beyond my control! At least we're #1!"
Keep voting! I know I am!

Hey guys. Voting is good!
I'll put up some statistical analysis of our new accounts results this weekend. Thanks go to Morgenes for some tools that give us a better idea of player retention and a better "at a glance" view of players from a given month; we will be delving into that data and showing off what we now have figured out about actual player retention. For instance, we can figure out the quality of apps from any particular source. However, here's a quick snapshot of the "funnel" (the amount of new players that get as far as the "where survey"):
349 new accounts (already our best month in history, beating last month by 100 accounts and the month isn't even over yet)
47 from Google (could be attributed to either TMS or TMC depending on which link they clicked after that)
60 from TMS
109 from TMC
Awesome!
I can't wait to see the statistics for this month to find out how many actual noobs we got. I been voting daily.
yeah, i don't even play anymore and this thread has gotten me pumped. voting near-daily.
Come on! Over 2000 votes should be easy, let's set another new record guys!
Wow.. what a boost to the game. I think everyone deserves a clap for effort.
Now would be a good time to throw some more reviews up on TMC. If you love it, share the love!
Is there any way to use a batch file or something to auto enter voting websites and vote for armageddon, daily?
Yes... A batch file to open the two links is simple. Making a script to click the vote button for you is an order of magnitude harder and considered cheating by many.
Open chrome http://www.top... Should work but km ons tablet and can't test grr.

And by us. And probably by TMS. So don't do crap like that.
here's the batch file code to open your default browser to the vote pages.
start explorer http://www.topmudsites.com/vote-sanvean.html
start explorer "http://www.mudconnect.com/cgi-bin/vote_rank.cgi?mud=Armageddon"
If you don't know how to make a batch file... all you have to do is Show file name extensions (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/show-or-hide-file-name-extensions), create a text file, paste in the code above, save it, then change the file extension from .txt to .bat.
Protip: leave file name extensions visible.
Here's a luascript so that you get hyperlinks whenever you log into TMS.
function votestart()
Hyperlink ("http://www.topmudsites.com/vote-sanvean.html", "Vote at TMS\r", "Vote for TMS 2x a day", "yellow", "black", 1)
Note ("")
Hyperlink ("http://www.mudconnect.com/cgi-bin/vote_rank.cgi?mud=Armageddon", "Vote at TMC", "Vote for TMS", "yellow", "black", 1)
end
function voteend()
Hyperlink ("http://www.topmudsites.com/vote-sanvean.html", "Vote at TMS", "Vote for TMS 2x a day", "yellow", "black", 1)
Note ("")
end
simply put "votestart" in the connect section and "voteend" in the disconnect section (without quotation marks) and you then have two clickable links everytime you log into Armageddon :)
