Title: Are these things sentient?
Post by: Kebron on May 27, 2012, 12:06:20 AM
Ok, so i've been comming in contact with things in the wild that I would OOCly think were sentient but Icly I'm not sure so its affecting how I react to them and since there isn't a help file for it I'm confused.
So the two things that got me right now, Baltha, And Magera.
Baltha's look from reading their description like they would kinda be like half garilla half dog. And since they are docile bipedal etc I kinda expect they would be sentient?
And likewise i've run across Magera, which wear loincloths. So By the fact they wear even tattered garments you can presume they are also sentient?
How should these be treated and reacted to ICly?

Well, seeing has Gith have their own language, crafts and culture, and they're still killed and skinned like animals during hunting, I doubt Zalanthans care much about if something is sentient or not.

So most people would just consider them dangerously intelligent beasts. There would be little to no worry about harming sentient creatures, or such.

Here, let's pull up the files from General Information - Animals (http://www.armageddon.org/general/beasts.html#baltha):

QuoteBaltha : This shaggy beast has four massive limbs, covered like its body in thick murky crimson fur. Though it walks nearly upright, and its hands and feet are almost humanoid in appearance, its beady black eyes betray no intelligence, and its broad snout is clearly bestial. The baltha is rarely hunted, for its fur is usually scarred from its thorny habitat, and its meat is unpleasantly oily and gristly.

This would seem to imply to me that it is not sentient.

QuoteMagera : Tall, brutish humanoids with great, red manes, Magera stalk the northern fringes of the Lower Red Desert. While not particularly intelligent, they are consummate oppurtunists and will take advantage of any potential meal they come across.

This would seem to imply that they're not really very smart at all.

However, as has been stated, this is Zalanthas. Many things which are intelligent people don't care about. Gith and Mantis, for example, nobody really cares about. It can, of course, vary character to character. It also bears saying that if something is secretly sentient, the documentation probably won't cover that (as they only go over general beliefs). Do whatever your character would do!

i clearly remember something rather startling happening at the last Arena rpt. And I guess you could ask around in game too, make a character that has reason to be interested in whether other species have languages or wear clothes or something.

A something something that might be a magera stands here.

>Think I wonder of it talks....

>wish ALL would anyone mind animating the beastie to my west?

Famous last words... THAT would make a good thread.
