Title: While we're talking about subguilds ... scavengers ...
Post by: musashi on July 16, 2011, 08:02:04 AM
I don't know, but I always wished that the scavenger sub-guild was split into two different subguilds, one for grebbers who do their grebbing outside the city walls, and one for scavengers like rinthi rats who do their scaving inside the city.

Basically ... swap out search for direction sense?

Just a thought.

I just wish you could forage for food in the city/alleys.

Like in a pile of rubbish or one of those mounds? Would be useful for a snack, I suppose, but realistically it might give you some disease.

But I'm all for specific city-scavengers. It would at least give all the bums a job to do.

There's other places in the city you can forage for food - think dark and damp.  Some of the dark alleys should yield similar results, but I haven't tried it.  I thought scavengers worked pretty good inside and outside, I don't remember if they got direction sense or not.  If not, a small degree of direction sense would be good to have for them.  I don't think search should be taken away, however, it is useful in the city and wilderness.

Idea about search:  Allow it to work a little bit like scan so you don't have to search everything everywhere you go just to put it to use.  PLOX.

I just figure if they are meant to be a city-based scavenger then direction sense wouldn't make any sense for the subguild.

And while I know that there are certain places in the wilds where search can be used, I feel there are certainly more spots in the settlements where this comes in handy.

So if a skill had to swapped out to make city/wilderness different, that would be the one I'd pick.

Scavenger is the best subguild in the game.

Every wilderness mage should be a scavenger.

Just give scavengers direction sense anyway that'd be pretty rad

Honestly, you don't need direction sense unless you like to frequent various IC places that have terrible sandstorms, and even then, a pair of sunslits goes a long way.

Those sunslits don't do much when you don't have direction sense as a skill at all.

Meh, if there was a subguild that had climb and direction sense-- just those two skills, and only those two skills, it would wind up being one of my most-used subguilds, hands down.

::Edited to add::

We could call it, "Sacrifice other subguild skills so you don't get so pissed off at everyday situations as a warrior".

Cumbersome name, sure, but it'd fit.

My god yes!

What about rinthi scavenger subguild? I think the regular scavenger subguild already works well for southerners who don't live in the rinth and occasionally leave the city and farms. Some subguild that really helps rinthis live within the rinth, but are useless outside the rinth, so that I don't see four rinthis at the Gaj that probably have to be there and have to end up salting once a real-life week. I'd suggest the hide skill in this new subguild, but I think the game would blow up and make everyone as paranoid as elves.

I actually wish search is something everyone gets like forage. It doesn't need to go beyond journeyman for non scavengers.

Also the ability to search in the shadows for hidden people or anything else.  I guess that is basically what scan is, but if there could be a different skill that would somehow separate the different aspects of this, that would be great.  Also wish searching for hidden exits/entrances worked like scan to some degree at least.
